...De RE-probados pasaron a la...
* Espectacular empate en el Corona
* Sendo Golazo de Morales
* Nuevamente Ludueña, pieza clave.
* 5 sin perder viendolo positivamente.
* Mares va a soñar al idolo Pony.
En un partido lleno de emociones, Santos Laguna empata a 3 goles con un estudiantes que le salió respondón bajo la batuta del Pony Ruiz que sigue demostrando la calidad que aun le sobra en sus botines.
Teniendo de marco a un Estadio Corona con una entrada regular ( luego no nos quejemos de que se cierre la transmision ) Santos Laguna llegaba a este partido con la firme intencion de adjudicarse su 4ta. victoria consecutiva y cerrar la jornada doble de forma perfecta, y asi se veía durante los primeros 15 min, cuando se veia al equipo jugando alegremente tan es asi, que a los 13 minutos, en jugada de pase a fondo, Ludueña filtra a Darwin que deja atras a su marcador y anota lo que seria el 1-0, sin embargo el "brillante" abanderado marcaba un fuera de lugar INEXISTENTE, lo que le ganó que le recordaran a su madre, su abuela y demas parientela.

Ilógicamente, Santos no bajó los brazos por eso ( sino que los bajaría despues ) y en una descolgada de 4 vs 3, Ludueña en jugada personal se quita a un defensa y manda tiro cruzado para vencer a Mario Rdgz apenas al minuto del gol anulado,lo que nos hacía soñar con una victoria clara, fácil y tranquila sobre los discipulos de Miguel Herrera.
Sin embargo no contabamos con que los locales, se echarían a la hamaca como en aquellos buenos tiempos...A Estudiantes, solo le basto 4 minutos para voltear la tortilla, y es que empezó el baile del Pony Ruiz sobre Osmar Mares, --nomas le falto ponerle el billete en la tanga porque vaya que si lo sacó a bailar una y otra vez-- ( urge que regrese la Mona Olvera ) por aquella banda, el 1-1 vino a recentro de Pony ¡de cabeza! ante la marca de( ...si, adivinaron, Mares) para la llegada del ex-santista Elgabry Rangel ( el cual habia estrellado antes el balon en el travesaño ) y rematar de cabezaso, Oswaldo rechaza el balon como si fuera de Voley debido a la cercania del mismo, para un contrarremate de Rangel en una media tijera bonita y emparejar todo, pero eso no era suficiente, y en un contragolpe, se le viene la noche al santos, cuando
El segundo tiempo, empezaria mal para los guerreros, ( de entrada, los cambios nuevamente son dignos de pensarse, sobre todo la entrada de Fernando Arce que sigue sin salir de ese bache que ya es ABISMO ) en tiro de esquina y ya con Vuoso --en la cancha en cambio x Quintero--, Pony Ruiz centra para la llegada del patroncito Leaño que le gana la marca a Lacerda para poner el 1-3 en lo que parecía una losa pesada para los guerreros.

Sin embargo, los de la Comarca se acordaron de que estaban jugando de locales, y se sacudieron el conformismo y confianza que se habian echado luego del primer gol, y al 62, lograron que Leaño perjudicara a su equipo con un penal sobre Lorito, el cual vino a ser cobrado por Chato Rdgz. de forma dramática para el 2-3 y la esperanza de darle la vuelta, o al menos alcanzarlos.
Ante el embate, Herrera optó por irse para atras ( y pelearse con la tribuna ) Santos tenía para si, todo el medio campo ( a excepcion de cuando la toma Arce ) y al 69 Santos se inspira y logra una jugada de primer toque para que Ludueña centrara para la llegada de Morales --y de aire-- meter trallazo que cruza a Mario Rdgz. y poner los definitivos 3-3, y de paso hacer explotar al TSM.
Todavía y antes del final, Ludueña tuvo en sus botines, el 4-3 sin embargo Cepillo Peralta fue a hacer mosca y cepillar el tiro del hacha que con ese leve movimiento, fue suficiente para enviarlo al travesaño ante el grito ahogado de gol de la concurrencia...
Empate que en primera, fue sufrido, emocionante, si, pero tambien un digno recuerdo de que se deben concentrar los 90 minutos del juego y quitarse de la mente echarse a la hamaca cuando cae un gol tempranero, ayer, los estudiantes volvieron a detallar las fallas por arriba que tiene el cuadro bajo, fue un pesimo juego, no solo de Mares, sino tambien de Kanu ( que se queda colgado, siempre va para atras, y suele perderse de fea forma en algunos ataques del contrario ), ya ni para que mencionar el nivel de Arce y las continuas salidas de Quintero que a veces vienen a restarle velocidad al ataque.
Lo bueno, es que se sigue en buena racha sin conocer la derrota, la capacidad de reaccion que tiene el equipo cuando se lo propone, y la confianza que Ludueña estaba recobrando para ser ese crack y creativo que el equipo requería DESGRACIADAMENTE, se nos informa que el Hacha causa baja para al menos 10 días( si bien nos va, porque eso dijeron con Baloy y ya va para el mes y medio gran cuerpo medico que tiene el equipo, ¿donde andará el Dr. Galván? ), debido a una distension segun lo dio a conocer el club, asi que Daniel Ludueña, se suma a Ochoa, Cardenas y Baloy en la lista de lesionados estos dos ultimos, bajas importantes para el equipo.
Se viene ahora un juego por demas difícil --quien lo dijera-- pero el Gallos sinceramente esta muy bien entrenado y se estan partiendo la madre en cada juego lo que los hace unos rivales peligrosos, si a eso le suman que nos estaran esperando para cobrar "viejas facturas" me hace imaginar que los de Reynoso, buscaran a toda costa, cobrarse ese descenso que tuvieron a manos de los Guerreros, ojala Romano sepa acomodar sus piezas para traerse un buen resultado en lo que se ve un juego de pronostico reservado.

Ludueña a los tristes tigres...
* SEÑOR GOL del señor Hacha!
* Lacerda se estrena
* Excelente Primer tiempo
* Sufrido segundo tiempo
* 4 Sin perder, 3 Victorias al Hilo.
*Afianzados en el liderato de grupo.
Con un futbol ordenado en el primer tiempo, una genialidad de un hombre que cuando se decide, puede ser un crack, con el estreno en goles de un chavo que busco y buscó su gol aun siendo defensa, y con un portero que merece estar en el representativo nacional ( y que no lo esta gracias al pendejo de Aguirre y sus amigos ) Santos Laguna vence a domicilio a los tristes "ti-gue-res" en el mismisimo y "temido" volcan universitario que quedo frío en sus tribunas y su ambiente.
Siendo sinceros, no solo Hachita fue la figura, porque en realidad, todo el equipo, jugo por nota al menos, durante los primeros 45 minutos, donde se vio a un Santos Laguna ordenado, muy ordenado desde atras, con un Figueroa que literalmente secó a Itamar de forma limpia y sobria, como hace mucho no se veia, felicidades por Rafa porque vaya que dio un gran partido, sin embargo no fue el unico, Guti Estrada, no grita, CLAMA por una oportunidad en el equipo grande de Mexico, sin embargo la miopía ( o bien la pendejez del que se tiene en el timon de la Seleccion) le cuesta a este guerrero su llamado, porque si estuviera alguien que realmente le hable a lo mejor del futbol nacional, sin duda deberia ser tomado en cuenta, pero como esta un tipo que prefiere llevar a sus "compas" ( aunque ya los haya agüitado con sus declaraciones y su risa cuando le preguntan las aspiraciones en el mundial ).
Estrada, hizo lo que quiso con el triste tigre de Castillo lo bailó y lo dejo en ridículo no solo una, sino hasta dos veces en el golazo de Ludueña cuando se quito sus barridas y todavia tiro un centro preciso y precioso.
Santos Laguna, salto a la cancha, con Oswaldo, Morales, Figueroa, Lacerda, Kanu, Guti atras, en medio Chato, Ludueña, Lorito y Darwin, dejando al frente a Peralta que tambien tuvo sus oportunidades sin embargo la defensa de tigres se empleaba a fondo para no dejarlo definir.
Tigres se fue adelante, apenas al minuto 12, con un golazo de Toledo desde fuera del area, en un tiro que nada podia hacer ( y solo asi vencían ) a Oswaldo Sanchez que se estiro todo lo que pudo, ante la algarabía de los aficionados regios ( que tanto se ufanan de "llenar" en todo momento su estadio, que chingaos, ayer tenia mas huecos que pantalon de indigente ).
Santos no se desesperó, estaban haciendo un buen juego de ida y vuelta hasta antes del gol, asi que siguio con la misma tonica, en el ambiente, se sentia que el juego era ganable y se tenia con que remontar...
No nos harian quedar mal, y al 21, viene la soberbia jugada del Guti sobre castillo, para tirar el centro que mide Ludueña y nos regala UN SEÑOR GOLAZO de esos que gritas valiendote madre los que esten a tu alrededor, una media tijera que deja sin oportunidad a Cirilo y de paso deja boquiabiertos a los regios ( por cierto, deberían haberle dado las gracias, por dignarse a meter un gol asi en su estadio, mal agradecidos jajajaja ).
Asi se irian al medio tiempo, donde nos dariamos cuenta que aun estando lejos, se nos quiere y se nos estima...vean nomas que postal...
Ajas! y todavia venia lo mejor, para la segunda mitad, llegando al minuto 50, con el cobro de un tiro desde 3/4 de cancha, en casi un Deja vu del juego vs Toluca, pero en esta ocasion, cobra Hachita para la llegada de Lacerda y con esto meter testarazo que pondria los cartones definitivos de 1-2 poniendo las cosas en su lugar y donde deben estar.
Felicidades al Johnnatan, la verdad es que desde juegos atras se le veia el hambre de querer anotar, ya sea de jugada o bien a balon parado, esperemos que sea el primero de muchos goles que sirvan al equipo.
Vendrían los cambios, sale Oribe, entra Vuoso, sale Figueroa por lesion, entra Uriel...pero el que si sinceramente no le vi mucho sentido, pues el contragolpe estaba mas que marcado con un hombre rapido, sacan a Darwin "el ultimo cientifico mohicano" Quintero y meten a un Fernando Arce que nomas nunca se le vio en el terreno de juego, se perdio y si se suponia que Santos ganaria en presencia en media cancha, pues nada de eso sucedio y se termino el juego con el rosario...PERO CON EL TRIUNFO EN LA MANO, con esto, Santos, se afianza a la cima del grupo, se gana un juego de 6 puntos, y sobre todo, van ganando en confianza con la 3era victoria consecutiva.
Se vienen los tecos del Pony, en un juego de pronostico reservado, pues no dudo que pony como todo un profesional, quiera venir a hacer daño.
A irnos al Corona, y hacer sentir la localía, no hay excusas para no estar ahi...

En El TSM, Oribe Peralta Al Toluca

* Lo bueno, Se tiene mucha llegada.
* Lo malo, falta mucha contundencia.
* Lo feo, cuando se cambia a 5 atras.
* Jared, Otro Santo que vencio al Diablo.

En un día atípico,Santos Laguna dio cuenta ahora de los Diablos Rojos del Toluca por la minima gracias a certero cabezazo del de la Partida Coahuila, Oribe Peralta, que nuevamente demuestra estar en gran forma futbolistica.
Un partido duro, peleado, con llegadas en ambas porterías, en momentos deslucido pero con una constante, ah pa fallitas se aventaron los dos!.
En un esplendoroso TSM a mas de un 80% de su capacidad, Santos salto a la cancha con solo un cambio obligado, la incursion de Mares en lugar de la Mona Olvera ( que ya URGE que se vaya a barrer, porque no sale de una y entra en otra ) mientras que el Toluca saltaba con ese cuadro estelar pero que extrañamente viene a la baja.
Desde el inicio, Santos se lanzaba al frente con una delantera conformada por Darwin y Peralta, siendo acompañados por Morales, Ludueña, Lorito y Chato, dando avisos en pases, triangulaciones y tiros de media distancia de que no dejarían que el Diablo se saliera con la suya.
Sin embargo, el ultimo toque siempre era erróneo, se juega bien, pero se falla en demasía, tan es así que Oribe en un pase a profundidad ante el arquero atina con el balón sin embargo el pase sale muy cruzado ahogando el grito de gol en todos los presentes que arañaban sus butacas debido a las fallas.
Buen juego del Chato
Se nota a un equipo mas unido, algunos nos dejan la impresion que quedan debiendo ( tal es el caso de Ludueña ) sin embargo, no lo culpo totalmente de ello, El Hacha si bien no esta en un optimo momento, sigue filtrando pases y moviendose, sin embargo es el referente ideal para el contrincante con la meta de anularlo antes que a todos los demas, el detalle ahora (para los contrarios) radica en que Oribe dentro de la cancha se convierte realmente en el defensor mejor colocado, ya que sigue recuperando balones, tocando y moviendose al espacio dando muestras del hambre que tiene y que lo hecho en Chiapas no fue una chiripa sino una madurez futbolística que a Santos le esta redituando.
Denme eso y no problemas.
El juego transcurría entre jugadas que solo dejaban salir el "Ah!" de la gente, tiros de media distancia que no lograban inquietar a Talavera, mientras que Oswaldo durante la primera mitad poco le falto para sacar su mantel, su vianda y pedir una pepsi o una corona para tener un día de campo en la grama del nuevo Corona.
Fue hasta el minuto 70 cuando en un centro templado, Mancilla se levanta y cabecea hacia apenas arriba del marco de Sanchez en una clara llegada roja que ya casi cantaban como gol, eso puso en alerta al tecnico que ya había mandado a la cancha a Matías Vuoso en cambio por el Hachita.

Y como bien dice el dicho, el que perdona pierde, al 80, en un centro de 3/4 de cancha de Morales, templado preciso y precioso, Oribe se levanta y le dice que no a la pelota para hacer explotar el grito de gol en el Corona, y colgarse asi su gol no. 3 en el torneo regular, y de paso nuevamente convertirse en la figura del partido, que aun tuvo varias jugadas, una muy vistoza de Darwin que recorta a un contrario en el area, pero que NUUUUNCA ve a Vuoso y se aboraza queriendola meter de fantasía teniendo al toro mejor colocado, o otra de Peralta que si la convertia me cae que se cae la tribuna pues fue una gran jugada individual que muchos ya casi cantabamos como gol.
En fin, la gente salio contenta por el resultado, sigue quedando ese gusanito de que ojala se aprovecharan mas las oportunidades para no terminar con el rosario en la mano, y es que luego del gol, Toluca se lanzó al frente, Romano hizo unos cambios para modificar e irse a la linea de 5 que desdibujo mucho--a mi parecer-- al equipo.
Sin embargo ya poco pudieron hacer los toluqueños, decretandose una derrota mas para ellos y la segunda victoria consecutiva para los verdes que con esto llegan a 10 unidades, afianzandose en la cima del grupo 3.

Swansea is a city on the south-west coast of Wales in West Glamorgan on the banks of the River Tawe, known locally as Abertawe - “mouth of the Tawe”
Swansea geographical location saw it thrive during the industrial revolution, the port exported coal across to the south-west of England and specialised in copper smelting, as smelting works opened along the Tawe Valley.
The town expanded during the 18th and 19th centuries as the Smelters were established producing arsenic, tin and zinc to create tinplate and pottery, which made the town a big player in the world copper industry, which termed Swansea the name “Copperopolis".
Swansea Town formed in 1912 and joined the Southern League Second Division, winning promotion prior to the war which gained admission into the expansion of the Football League, becoming founder members of Division Three South.
Swansea gained city status in 1969 to mark the enthronement of Prince Charles as the Prince of Wales, so the club became Swansea City in February the following year.
Having played at the Vetch Field for 93 years, Swansea City moved into a new purpose built stadium on the outskirts of the town on the west side of the River Tawe.
The stadium was built upon the site of the former Morfa Athletics Stadium and during construction went under the working name of White Rock, named of the copper works which was located on the site and opened way back in 1737.
White Rock would have been a unique and cool name for a football ground, however the stadium became available for sponsorship naming rights, which went to local developers Liberty Property, so it became “Stadiwm Liberty” on 18th October 2005.
The stadium was designed by Gateshead based TTH Architects (I’m their postman. Morning!)and built by Interserve at a total cost of £27m.
It wasn’t just the Vetch Field that needed replacing, local rugby club All Whites played at the St. Helen’s ground which was also well past its sell by date.
All Whites merged with Neath RFC to form Ospreys, and along with Swansea City the city council had the ideal site in Landore a few miles from the city centre to accommodate both clubs.
The 20,500 capacity multi-use stadium was funded by the nearby retail park built on the east side of the river. Work commenced in Autumn 2003 with the opening game played on 23rd July 2005 between Swansea and Fulham.
The stadium has four two tier stands all equal in size with a much larger top tier. The West Stand is slightly bigger having executive boxes at the back running full length of the stand. The seats are decked out in black with triangular shapes and the name of the ground and home teams picked out in white.
The stadium benefits from partial transparent roofing which produces more natural light and has electric scoreboards on top of the North and South Stands.
Outside the stadium in the south-west corner stands a statue of Ivor Allchurch MBE.
“Swansea’s Golden Boy’ wasn’t just a legend for The Jacks but was also a great favourite on Tyneside. Ivor signed for Swansea Town in 1947 scoring 124 goals in 327 appearances before a big money move to Newcastle United in 1958. In four seasons Ivor notched 51 goals in 154 starts before returning to South Wales to Cardiff City before going back home to Swansea in 1965.
Allchurch scored a club record 160 goals for Swansea and with 68 Welsh caps once held the record appearances for his country. Ivor was a true gentleman on the field and never the type of player to lose his temper, a gifted inside forward who could play with both feet and was renouned for his pinpoint passing and his ability to score from distance. A true football legend and the golden boy of Swansea and Wales.
With an unbeaten league run of 15 games coming to an abrupt end at Pride Park last Tuesday, this game took on a much greater significance for Newcastle. It was expected that the players would show a positive reaction to the gubbing off Derby County with a good performance and result at the Liberty Stadium.
Well at least the result was a good one, as the overall performance was very poor and the Toon were lucky and rather fortunate to share the points with an energetic and well organised Swansea City side.
City looked up for the game from the start, applying early pressure and going close with a well worked free kick from Orlandi. United’s best effort came after half an hour when Nolan should have done better with a close range header, but overall the Jacks were the better side and at the break I personally would have settled for a point.
In the second half the Swans went close with two efforts from Dyer but eventually took the lead on 56 minutes. A Pratley cross was dummied by Dyer which allowed Cotterill plenty of space and time to cut inside and pick his spot giving Harper no chance.
Williams then went close with a header but the best chance fell to Pintado who could have secured the points, missing his kick from close range with only six minutes remaining.
Three minutes later Newcastle levelled. Substitute Leon Best produced a great cross which was met at the back post by Andy Carroll with a powerful header. A goal which left me and the rest of the Toon Army both stunned and yet relieved to be able to make the long journey home with a point, which wasn’t deserved, but may prove to be a crucial one by the end of the season.

Following on from Cardiff and Plymouth this is the final part of my far flung Championship grounds trilogy. The final episode saw the earliest departure time yet - 3.30am, as Sky Sports decided to broadcast the game with a 12.45 k.o. to go up against ITV’s coverage of the FA Cup.
With the game kicking off early I thought I wouldn’t have much precious time in Swansea, to do the things I needed to while visiting this corner of South Wales.
I needn’t have worried as we arrived in good time at around 9.30am, giving me plenty of time to tick off a couple of pubs (your reader should know which ones..Eddy) and pay homage to the Vetch Field.
As is always the case when following NUFC away, I was with Ian Patrick and his son Lee, Ian doing his usual fantastic performance behind the wheel, even though he nearly dropped off a couple of times, myself and Lee took turns at going shotgun to keep him awake during the 700 mile round trip.
I decided we should stay well away from the M4 with the Rugby Union international in Cardiff between Wales and Scotland taking play at 2pm. So I navigated an alternative route, crossing the border at Monmouth and travelling on the A40 towards Abergavenny and through the valley’s down the A465 towards Merthyr then out at the bottom across the M4 into Swansea.
This was a much better and quicker way to South Wales, the roads were quiet and I didn’t see any other football fans on route, meaning we made good time heading back north, arriving home at quarter to nine.
We found the Swansea folk very friendly making our short stay in the city very enjoyable. I’m pleased to complete this ground trilogy and special thanks to 100FgC #2 for making the three match days enjoyable and getting us safely from A to B and back again, even though it meant getting up in the middle of the night and having to suffer sleep depravation, although overall it's been well worth it and a small sacrifice to pay to tick off these new grounds.

Sin Llorar...Santos Laguna vs Toluca, por PPV.
Esto se dio a conocer luego de que a 48 horas de que se efectúe el mencionado juego, el boletaje no se vendió en su totalidad, condición que puso el propio club hace unos días para mantener la señal abierta, tal como había venido siendo.
“Al no haberse cumplido con el objetivo de vender la totalidad del boletaje a 48 horas del encuentro, el duelo entre Santos Laguna y Toluca, correspondiente a la Jornada 5 del Torneo Bicentenario 2010, será transmitido por señal restringida en pago por evento este sábado a las 17:00 hrs”, explicó Santos mediante un breve comunicado de prensa.
La señal de los juegos como local, se había mantenido abierta en la Comarca Lagunera, contrariamente a la tendencia global, en la que se suele cerrar dicha emisión televisiva.

En un partido reñido, con llegadas en ambos lados, reapariciones y un flashback esperado, Santos Laguna dio cuenta de la maquina del Cruz Azul al son de 2-0 en su propio estadio Azul que bien podría llamarse "La Hielera" y es que pesa mas un kilo de tortillas que ese inmueble alla en el Defectuoso.
Un Juego ganable, fue el comentario en particular luego del transcurrir del tiempo, y es que asi se sentia, Cruz Azul atacaba pero eran detenidos atras por un Oswaldo Sanchez que no grita, clama que se le vuelva a llamar al grupo de amigos que ahora es la Seleccion de Aguirre.

Adelante, nos topabamos con lo que ya era predecible, un Vuoso a la banca y Oribe y Darwin tratando de hacer de las suyas y vaya que lo hicieron, sobre todo Oribe ya que Santos muestra un gran nivel de recuperacion estando el en la cancha, nunca da por perdido un balon SE MUEVE SIN EL ( algo de que ya casi no se veia en este equipo ) y Ludueña filtró lo que pudo y si no es por un jalon dentro del area ( el cual raramente no marcaron ) Santos bien podia haberse ido con una ventaja al medio tiempo sin sufrir tanto.
Darwin sin embargo aun se le ve flotando durante el partido, balon que recibe y por lo revolucionado que anda, le rebotan o las pierde muy faciles, yo comentaba que me este equipo bien podría jugar con los 3 dentro de la cancha, ya que se entienden y mueven muy bien, dejando a Oribe en medio junto a Ludueña y sentando al Loro que dicho sea de paso, nomas no pinta en este torneo y aparece y desaparece por grandes lapsos del encuentro.
Carlos Morales, fue otro que tuvo un muy buen juego, mostrando disponibilidad, yendo y viniendo, sin duda que teniendo a jugadores que te den el maximo en cada encuentro y no guarden nada, asi, asi nada podemos reprochar ya que vemos que se matan en la cancha.
El partido vs Cruz Azul sirve para que el tecnico de una vez por todas, mantenga un cuadro inicial, que por x o y razones nomas no ha podido repetir, se sigue mostrando debil LA CONTUNDENCIA Santos llega, si, pero falla en demasía.

Sendo contragolpe, Vuoso toma el balon pasada media cancha y al grito de "Agarrenlo que es ratero" se mete al area, y recorta a dos defensas rivales y define raso y colocado para un golazo que ojala le sacuda toda la polilla, el polvo y la mala fortuna al Toro y lo volvamos a tener como ese goleador nato, peligroso y respetado por los defensas rivales.
2-0 que sepultaba al Azul nuevamente, una victoria necesaria al haber perdido en casa, y que lanza al liderato del grupo 3, superando al par de gatos que se enfrentaron entre ellos.
Ahora vienen los diablos que no andan nada bien, pero no por eso son faciles, al contrario, sera un juego bastante duro contra los de Toluca, a llenar el TSM para que no nos cierren la señal ( siendo sinceros, no era el momento para esos comunicados, ya que nada de esto pasaria si en primera se hubieran comprometido a ir a Libertadores y en segunda, no haber salido a jugar tan medroso y cobarde frente a unos indios que contra todos pierden...menos contra nosotros ).

Mansfield lies on the River Maun, a former mining town and the largest market town in the county of Nottinghamshire.
A local church formed Mansfield Wesleyans FC in 1897 playing games on Kate Moody Lane for three years before switching to public playing fields on Stanhope Street.
The club’s next home base from 1903 on Newgate Lane was purchased by the local railway, which meant another move, this time to the aptly named ‘The Prairie’ at Radcliffe Gate from 1912.
The Stags finally found a permanent home when purchasing Field Mill in 1919 from the Duke of Portland, who leased the land with the agreement that the land must always be used for sporting purposes. By this time the club were established as Mansfield Town, which had infuriated rivals Mansfield Mechanics, who themselves were in pursuit of adding the Town suffix to their name.
Originally a cotton mill, football had been played on Field Mill as far back as 1861, making it one of the worlds oldest continuously used football grounds. The original tenants Greenhalgh formed from the local cricket club, cricket being its sole purpose from 1840, then Mansfield Amateurs followed by Mansfield Mechanics both shared with Mansfield Town Cricket Club from 1912.
The first stand was built on the west side in 1922, a small wooden structure which stood until 1959, when the club purchased a steel framed stand from Hurst Park racecourse in south London. The structure was built behind the original stand with changing rooms, offices and club lounges added. The original stand was then demolished and replaced with a standing paddock at the front of the new stand before finally opening in 1966.
In February 2001 the new West Stand was opened which is a large two-tier cantilever stand with a capacity of 5,500 which completed the £6.5m redevelopment of Field Mill. The stand also includes the Sandy Pate bar and sponsorship lounges.
The North Stand terrace was covered in 1956 with funds from the Supporters Club and along with the open Quarry Lane End terrace were replaced with new seated stands behind each goal in August 2000. Both stands are similar in stature, the North Stand is the away end, decked out with 1,910 blue seats with STAGS picked out in yellow. The Quarry Lane End is slightly larger with an extra 73 seats, with mainly yellow seats with MTFC picked out in blue. The players tunnel emerges from the nearside corner of the stand.
The Bishop Street Stand became the main stand when built prior to the Second World War, with 1,120 bench seats taking across from the West Stand.The stand is now condemned and cordoned off, only the players dugouts are at this side with an electric scoreboard on the old paddock terrace. There’s plans to redevelop the stand which would include a TV studio and gantry.
The overall capacity stands at 9,990 with the club’s record attendance of 24,479 against neighbours Nottingham Forest for an FA Cup 3rd round tie in January 1953.
As a young boy the Newcastle United 1973-74 side became the football club I fell in love with. A side which embarked on a thrilling FA Cup run which ended in a predictable Wembley embarrassment against Liverpool’s Shankly, Keegan and Co. A result and performance which the first time in my football fan career, ended in tears.
On my bedroom wall was a team picture of the United squad, amongst Supermac, Bobby Moncur, Hibbitt and Tudor, was one player who stood out amongst the rest of the striped shirts.
Standing in between Craig and Cassidy, was a big strapping lad with shoulder length strawberry blonde hair and matching moustache, much like a 70’s German porn star.
I knew all about the United squad in that photograph, except for this one particular player that I had no knowledge of apart from his name.
Gordon Hodgson was born in Newcastle and signed for his hometown club as a teenager in 1971. Shortly after the Cup Final horror show and limited to only 9 appearances over three years he signed for Mansfield Town .
Gordon is regarded as one of the greatest midfielders in Town’s history. In his first s
eason with the club he played a starring role in The Stags promotion as Division Four champions. In 1975-76 he skippered the club as promotion was again achieved as league winners reaching Division Two for the first time in the clubs history.
Over four years Hodgson made 184 league appearances, missing only two games because of suspension and notching 23 goals from midfield before moving on to Oxford United in 1978.
Gordon went on to play for Peterborough United, before hanging up his boots, swapping the blue of The Posh for the blue of the police force.
Gordon Hodgson died in April 1999 at the tender age of 46, the big Geordie will always be held in high regard with the Stags fans, playing a decisive part in the most memorable time in the club’s history.
Mansfield Town’s 77 year stay in the Football League ended in 2008 and like many clubs relegated into the Blue Square Premier, a quick return has proven difficult, and in turn, clubs promoted into the Conference find it equally tough to survive.
Mansfield currently lie in fourth position took on a Gateshead side who are an example of a club finding it difficult to adapt to the big league. However that struggle may be about to change, as The Tyneside’s produced their best performance of the season to upset a large anticipating home support.
The return of Carl Jones in defence from long term injury, along with January recruits Andy Ferrell in midfield and striker Brian Wake has seen the backbone of the team strengthened, along with wingers Winn and Sinclair added to the squad.
It was one of the new signings Brian Wake which gave Gateshead a dream start in the 5th minute, the former Morton striker picked up the ball in the middle of the park and ran unchallenged to the edge of the box, his shot took a deflection which looped high over the stranded Marriott.
Gateshead created more chances to extend the lead, Wake twice went close while Armstrong saw a close rage effort blocked by a defender. Heed keeper Farman wasn’t called into action until first half injury time, easily dealing with a Jake Speight shot from the edge of the box.
The consensus amongst the media and Mansfield supporters was that they’d turn the game around in the second half and go on to take the three points. That theory was diminished after only three second half minutes. Wake again lead the Stags defence a merry dance before smashing a right foot shot into the far corner to double the lead.
Mansfield had spells of pressure to try and get a foothold back into the game. Challinor’s long range effort was tipped onto the crossbar, then a Speight shot was blazed over.
Town’s best opportunity came in the 82nd minute, a mad scramble in the penalty area saw a blocked shot fall to Gary Silk who’s effort was pushed onto the bar, the rebound fell to Jon Shaw but his close range header was desperately cleared to safety.
The Tynesiders weathered the late storm and deservingly held on the claim a morale boosting win, which could turn out to be the big turning point of their season.

This was actually Gateshead’s closest Saturday away fixture of the season, which meant we had a full bus on, leaving at a reasonable time of 10.30am and arriving with enough time to spare for me to tick of the two ’Spoons pubs in the town.
This game caught the imagination of the local public as the club launched a special ‘pay what you like’ initiative, which means what it says on the tin, pay whatever you like to gain admission, be it 1p, £1 or a tenner, the choice was yours.
The plan was a success, as the Mansfield public turned out in large numbers giving Field Mill its biggest gate for over eight years. The big turnout meant the game had to be delayed for 20 minutes, with a section of the North Stand opened to feed the demand.
When I say the plan was a success, I mean the attendance of 7,261 (74 away fans) was a great achievement, however the fact that Mansfield were comprehensively beating will not encourage that casual supporter to return t’ Mill in a hurry.
The reason that this particular fixture was chosen is The Stags chairman was expecting an easy win for the home side. The big crowd would have enjoyed a goal fest, gone home happy seeing their team win and be keen to return again, however the boo’s ringing out at half time and on the full time whistle means this ambitious scheme has basically gone tits up!
I entered the ground via the Kevin Bird Suite at the back of the West Stand, the staff at Field Mill made me feel welcome, special thanks to Mark in the press box who looked after us all, my only complaint would be the lack of filling in the half time sandwiches! I also heard and spoke to reporters working for local radio, who gave an unbiased opinion on the game, giving full credit on a well deserved victory for Gateshead.
Unfortunately I have to report that the ’pay what you like’ gave good reason for the local crackerjack element to come out to play at a cost of only a penny.
Coins were thrown towards the Gateshead end from both inside and outside the stand with one lady supporter hit on the head, the father of one of the players was hit with a bottle, while a Heed supporter was set upon and punched by a gang of five thugs in the toilets. To cap it all off on our way out of the town a brick was thrown at our coach, luckily the person taking aim had a throw like a girl and missed the windows, his feeble effort ending up hitting the roof of the bus.
It’s a shame that a small minority spoils it for everyone else. I was warned by several people beforehand not to go into the town centre and be very cautious of the stewards at the ground.
While I appreciate what the club is doing in generating interest and extra home support, the matter of the safety and well being of away supporters has to be looked into. Visiting Field Mill needs to be a pleasant experience, otherwise away fans will be put off and the likes of myself, along with my fellow members of the Heed Army won’t be in too much of a hurry to return.

Mansfield lies on the River Maun, a former mining town and the largest market town in the county of Nottinghamshire.A local church formed Mansfield Wesleyans FC in 1897 playing games on Kate Moody Lane for three years before switching to public playing fields on Stanhope Street.
The club’s next home base from 1903 on Newgate Lane was purchased by the local railway, which meant another move, this time to the aptly named ‘The Prairie’ at Radcliffe Gate from 1912.
The Stags finally found a permanent home when purchasing Field Mill in 1919 from the Duke of Portland, who leased the land with the agreement that the land must always be used for sporting purposes. By this time the club were established as Mansfield Town, which had infuriated rivals Mansfield Mechanics, who themselves were in pursuit of adding the Town suffix to their name.
Originally a cotton mill, football had been played on Field Mill as far back as 1861, making it one of the worlds oldest continuously used football grounds. The original tenants Greenhalgh formed from the local cricket club, cricket being its sole purpose from 1840, then Mansfield Amateurs followed by Mansfield Mechanics both shared with Mansfield Town Cricket Club from 1912.The first stand was built on the west side in 1922, a small wooden structure which stood until 1959, when the club purchased a steel framed stand from Hurst Park racecourse in south London. The structure was built behind the original stand with changing rooms, offices and club lounges added. The original stand was then demolished and replaced with a standing paddock at the front of the new stand before finally opening in 1966.
In February 2001 the new West Stand was opened which is a large two-tier cantilever stand with a capacity of 5,500 which completed the £6.5m redevelopment of Field Mill. The stand also includes the Sandy Pate bar and sponsorship lounges.
The North Stand terrace was covered in 1956 with funds from the Supporters Club and along with the open Quarry Lane End terrace were replaced with new seated stands behind each goal in August 2000. Both stands are similar in stature, the North Stand is the away end, decked out with 1,910 blue seats with STAGS picked out in yellow. The Quarry Lane End is slightly larger with an extra 73 seats, with mainly yellow seats with MTFC picked out in blue. The players tunnel emerges from the nearside corner of the stand.
The Bishop Street Stand became the main stand when built prior to the Second World War, with 1,120 bench seats taking across from the West Stand.The stand is now condemned and cordoned off, only the players dugouts are at this side with an electric scoreboard on the old paddock terrace. There’s plans to redevelop the stand which would include a TV studio and gantry.
The overall capacity stands at 9,990 with the club’s record attendance of 24,479 against neighbours Nottingham Forest for an FA Cup 3rd round tie in January 1953.
As a young boy the Newcastle United 1973-74 side became the football club I fell in love with. A side which embarked on a thrilling FA Cup run which ended in a predictable Wembley embarrassment against Liverpool’s Shankly, Keegan and Co. A result and performance which the first time in my football fan career, ended in tears.On my bedroom wall was a team picture of the United squad, amongst Supermac, Bobby Moncur, Hibbitt and Tudor, was one player who stood out amongst the rest of the striped shirts.
Standing in between Craig and Cassidy, was a big strapping lad with shoulder length strawberry blonde hair and matching moustache, much like a 70’s German porn star.
I knew all about the United squad in that photograph, except for this one particular player that I had no knowledge of apart from his name.
Gordon Hodgson was born in Newcastle and signed for his hometown club as a teenager in 1971. Shortly after the Cup Final horror show and limited to only 9 appearances over three years he signed for Mansfield Town .
Gordon is regarded as one of the greatest midfielders in Town’s history. In his first s
eason with the club he played a starring role in The Stags promotion as Division Four champions. In 1975-76 he skippered the club as promotion was again achieved as league winners reaching Division Two for the first time in the clubs history.Over four years Hodgson made 184 league appearances, missing only two games because of suspension and notching 23 goals from midfield before moving on to Oxford United in 1978.
Gordon went on to play for Peterborough United, before hanging up his boots, swapping the blue of The Posh for the blue of the police force.
Gordon Hodgson died in April 1999 at the tender age of 46, the big Geordie will always be held in high regard with the Stags fans, playing a decisive part in the most memorable time in the club’s history.
Mansfield Town’s 77 year stay in the Football League ended in 2008 and like many clubs relegated into the Blue Square Premier, a quick return has proven difficult, and in turn, clubs promoted into the Conference find it equally tough to survive.Mansfield currently lie in fourth position took on a Gateshead side who are an example of a club finding it difficult to adapt to the big league. However that struggle may be about to change, as The Tyneside’s produced their best performance of the season to upset a large anticipating home support.
The return of Carl Jones in defence from long term injury, along with January recruits Andy Ferrell in midfield and striker Brian Wake has seen the backbone of the team strengthened, along with wingers Winn and Sinclair added to the squad.
It was one of the new signings Brian Wake which gave Gateshead a dream start in the 5th minute, the former Morton striker picked up the ball in the middle of the park and ran unchallenged to the edge of the box, his shot took a deflection which looped high over the stranded Marriott.
Gateshead created more chances to extend the lead, Wake twice went close while Armstrong saw a close rage effort blocked by a defender. Heed keeper Farman wasn’t called into action until first half injury time, easily dealing with a Jake Speight shot from the edge of the box.
The consensus amongst the media and Mansfield supporters was that they’d turn the game around in the second half and go on to take the three points. That theory was diminished after only three second half minutes. Wake again lead the Stags defence a merry dance before smashing a right foot shot into the far corner to double the lead.
Mansfield had spells of pressure to try and get a foothold back into the game. Challinor’s long range effort was tipped onto the crossbar, then a Speight shot was blazed over.
Town’s best opportunity came in the 82nd minute, a mad scramble in the penalty area saw a blocked shot fall to Gary Silk who’s effort was pushed onto the bar, the rebound fell to Jon Shaw but his close range header was desperately cleared to safety.
The Tynesiders weathered the late storm and deservingly held on the claim a morale boosting win, which could turn out to be the big turning point of their season.
Picture courtesy of 100FgC#26 Alan PriceThis was actually Gateshead’s closest Saturday away fixture of the season, which meant we had a full bus on, leaving at a reasonable time of 10.30am and arriving with enough time to spare for me to tick of the two ’Spoons pubs in the town.
This game caught the imagination of the local public as the club launched a special ‘pay what you like’ initiative, which means what it says on the tin, pay whatever you like to gain admission, be it 1p, £1 or a tenner, the choice was yours.
The plan was a success, as the Mansfield public turned out in large numbers giving Field Mill its biggest gate for over eight years. The big turnout meant the game had to be delayed for 20 minutes, with a section of the North Stand opened to feed the demand.
When I say the plan was a success, I mean the attendance of 7,261 (74 away fans) was a great achievement, however the fact that Mansfield were comprehensively beating will not encourage that casual supporter to return t’ Mill in a hurry.
The reason that this particular fixture was chosen is The Stags chairman was expecting an easy win for the home side. The big crowd would have enjoyed a goal fest, gone home happy seeing their team win and be keen to return again, however the boo’s ringing out at half time and on the full time whistle means this ambitious scheme has basically gone tits up!
I entered the ground via the Kevin Bird Suite at the back of the West Stand, the staff at Field Mill made me feel welcome, special thanks to Mark in the press box who looked after us all, my only complaint would be the lack of filling in the half time sandwiches! I also heard and spoke to reporters working for local radio, who gave an unbiased opinion on the game, giving full credit on a well deserved victory for Gateshead.
Unfortunately I have to report that the ’pay what you like’ gave good reason for the local crackerjack element to come out to play at a cost of only a penny.
Coins were thrown towards the Gateshead end from both inside and outside the stand with one lady supporter hit on the head, the father of one of the players was hit with a bottle, while a Heed supporter was set upon and punched by a gang of five thugs in the toilets. To cap it all off on our way out of the town a brick was thrown at our coach, luckily the person taking aim had a throw like a girl and missed the windows, his feeble effort ending up hitting the roof of the bus.
It’s a shame that a small minority spoils it for everyone else. I was warned by several people beforehand not to go into the town centre and be very cautious of the stewards at the ground.
While I appreciate what the club is doing in generating interest and extra home support, the matter of the safety and well being of away supporters has to be looked into. Visiting Field Mill needs to be a pleasant experience, otherwise away fans will be put off and the likes of myself, along with my fellow members of the Heed Army won’t be in too much of a hurry to return.

Los Guerreros buscan mantener señal de TV abierta
Santos Laguna y la empresa televisora que transmite los partidos del club de local, han estado revisando la posibilidad de cerrar la señal para la Comarca Lagunera durante los partidos efectuados en el Estadio Corona.
Ambas empresas han llegado a un acuerdo en el que se le ofrece al público la posibilidad de mantener dicha señal abierta y sin costo alguno para los televidentes laguneros. La decisión que se tomó es la de mantener la señal abierta siempre y cuando la venta de boletos se agote en sus 30,000 localidades.
A través de un comunicado de prensa, la Directiva santista explicó la situación e invitó a su afición a llenar su nueva casa.
"Hemos logrado diseñar un esquema sin precedentes en nuestro país, nuevamente único, en el que con la participación de la televisora, el equipo e invitando a sumarse activamente de este esfuerzo a 30,000 aficionados, podremos seguir ofreciendo este gran beneficio a nuestra afición de La Comarca sin costo alguno. Santos, TV Azteca y 30 mil aficionados por 1.2 millones", dijo literalmente el mencionado boletín.
También aclaró que de no lograrse el objetivo, la señal se bloqueará y se realizará solamente por vía satelital y en pago por evento. "A 48 horas del encuentro se llevará a cabo el corte final y se informará si se cumplió al 100 por ciento con la venta total de las localidades para mantener la transmisión abierta. En caso de que no se logre el objetivo, la señal será restringida y transmitida en pago por evento".
La venta de entradas para los partidos de Santos en calidad de local, comenzará ocho días antes del juego por medio de internet y los puntos de venta de la compañía responsable de dar el servicio de boletaje (Superboletos) y cinco días antes en la taquillas del Estadio Corona.
