Morecambe was a favoured holiday destination when I was a bairn, and I don’t mean the ill fated The World of Crinkley Bottom attraction in Happy Mount Park.
I fondly remember spending a few summers in the late 1970’s boarding the coach at Gallowgate bus station with my Mam & Dad and sister Gillian on route to Pontins at Middleton Tower.
The holiday camp was based around a huge building in the style of an ocean liner built in the centre of a large lake. I don’t look back with much nostalgia at these holidays. I spent most of the week suffering from asthma due to the thick woollen blankets in the chalets, sprouting a face full of spots due to the overcooked fried bread breakfasts and having no money left by Sunday after blowing my pocket money in the amusement arcade.
After 30 years apart, I’ve frequently returned to this Lancashire seaside town over the past two years. My last visit for football reasons was early in 2009 when ticking off Christie Park, for a League Two clash with Gillingham, so for my latest return to visit the town’s spanking new stadium, Morecambe again faced The Gills for the first time since that fixture took place.
Going into kick off both teams were without a league win between them this season and come the final whistle that unwanted record remained intact, both having to settle for a share of the points.
Gills were the dominant side in the first half, Shrimps skipper Barry Roche keeping his team in the game, pulling off a string of fine saves to twice deny danger man Barcham and producing a splendid double save from Bentley and Spiller.
Morecambe improved in the second half and after a lively start took the lead just before the hour mark. Craig Stanley got on the end of a Mark Duffy cross with a free header from 12 yards.
Gillingham made a double substitution with a quarter of an hour remaining and finished the game strongly. Danny Spiller grabbed the equaliser on 83 minutes, getting on the end of a Palmer free kick to score from a tight angle at the far post.
Spiller wasted a golden opportunity to win the game, blazing over from 12 yards and Roche again denied Barcham with another great save to earn his side a well earned point.

The Globe Arena cost around £12m and is built by Globe Construction, who claim the naming rights having agreed a £250,000 five year sponsorship deal.
After 89 years at Christie Park, work on the 6,476 capacity stadium began in May 2009, a year later than originally planned due to delays with planning, sales and legal agreements. The construction of the Main Stand began in September 2009 with the other three stands developed at the turn of the year.
After a bit of a false start with all three pre-season fixtures postponed, the stadium opened in time for Morecambe first competitive home match of the season against Coventry City in the 1st Round of the Carling Cup on August 10th. The occasion was marked with a 2-0 win with the honour of the first goals at the Arena scored by Andy Fleming.

The Main Stand has a capacity of 2,173 and is named after chairman Peter McGuigan, in recognition of his 10 years in charge of the club.
The stand has all the facilities which the club previously lacked with five private boxes, sponsors lounges, sizable press area and a large hospitality suite which isn’t just used on match day but throughout the year.
The stand runs pitch length, decked out in gleaming white seats with a red section in the centre which is in front of the hospitality and private boxes.
There are covered terraces behind each goal. The West Stand is called the MBW Stand, named after the local wine business and holds 2,234 home spectators, with two disabled sections situated at the front.
The opposite stand is slightly smaller, set further back with the bottom of the terrace parallel with the crossbar. The East Terrace is known as The Bay Radio Stand and accommodates 1,389 visiting fans.
The Main Stand looks across to the Open Terrace which is an uncovered standing section which is reminiscent of the old Car Wash Stand at Christie Park. The 606 capacity terrace is split into two sections with a refreshment area and TV gantry block in between, as well as a large community block in the north east corner.

I headed up to Morecambe via the M6 from the Smudgers bank holiday weekend base in the outskirts of Blackpool. On arrival after a quick look at the ground I met up with 100FgC squad#155 James Little for a pre match drink at the William Mitchell pub, which is only a ten minute walk from the stadium and has a good selection of ales and also allows free use of their car park.
Edinburgh based James had already visited the Globe Arena for the Carling Cup tie with Coventry City. His description of the new ground was “An upmarket version of what they used to have”
A few more of the 100FgC squad got in touch prior to my impending visit to give their opinions, having attended last Tuesday’s clash with Burnley in the Carling Cup.
#86.Jim Morris described it as “A great day out with friendly stewarding, motorbike parking and photos allowed”
#83.Ralph Pomeroy added “Not bad for a new one .. its very much like an updated Christie Park” while one of our newest members of the squad #161.Micheal Swaffield said “We all thought that the Shrimps had replicated what they had before, although the main stand did look more modern! See if you spot the floodlight at the away end that looks out of position!
So the general consensus amongst the squad seemingly suggests that Morecambe have produced a modern day version of Christie Park, however I have read of issues concerning the restricted view in the Main Stand and the width of the alleyways, so I will be interested to read other reviews to subsequent visitors to the stadium.

I’d like to thank Morecambe for their hospitality, especially Derek Quinn for making me feel welcome. He told me to enjoy myself and to “Be nice to us” in my report. But how could I be unkind to such a friendly and hospitable club such as Morecambe? The club, players and their fans seem to have taking to their new surroundings like a duck to water (Shouldn’t that be Shrimp to water…Eddy) so I’d like to wish them all the best in their 21st century version of Christie Park.

Vuelven los GUERREROS

* Morales, Chucho y Ludueña letales cazadores.
* ¡Golazo del Hachita Ludueña!
* Esa es la actitud que queremos ver.
* Cambios que surten efecto.
* La prox. semana, no hay futbol...gracias a la decepción.

En un esplendoroso TSM, Santos Laguna da cuenta de los Zorros del Atlas al son de 3 goles a uno, en un juego que marcó el regreso de la actitud que siempre queremos ver en los Guerreros.
Todos sabemos que un equipo gana, empata o pierde, pero hay maneras, inclusive, la forma en que Atlas vendió la derrota nos da todavía mas la razón de que ésa actitud es la que pedimos --como mínimo-- los aficionados a este equipo.
Volvieron las jugadas de gol ( cierto, entendemos que cada juego y el rival son diferentes) pero nuevamente se notó ese cambio de chip en jugadores como Daniel Ludueña.
El Hacha, no sólo anotó una belleza de gol como los que nos tiene acostumbrados, sino que en esta ocasión nunca se escondió, al contrario, pedía el balón continuamente y los ataques pasaron nuevamente por sus pies para lanzar al equipo al frente.

 Al "Maestro" con cariño, un reconocimiento antes del encuentro.

Los Zorros del Atlas fueron los que pagaron los platos rotos de la unica derrota del torneo, pero no fueron dóciles, al contrario, dentro de los movimientos de Romano, el Atlas encontraba espacios que no supieron aprovechar, mencion aparte de la actuación de Oswaldo Sanchez que nuevamente saca a relucir la experiencia que lo caracteriza.
Santos por su parte, tuvo también aproximaciones claras que el portero se encargó de retener, la mayoría de las acciones vendría en la segunda mitad y luego de un abucheo no tan generalizado pero si notable que le daba a entender al equipo que el partido era ganable y que se requería que le metieran segunda al equipo y si era necesario 3era y cuarta para asegurar un triunfo que era mas que necesario en la afición concurrente.

La ausencia de Darwin, vino a traer al campo de batalla a Oribe Peralta para darle un refresco al ataque y una variante siempre interesante, la inclusión del de la partida, nos la hizo notar, cuando en una hermosa jugada futbolera donde Santos tuvo el balón en mas de 5 toques para una jugada colectiva que nos recuerda la capacidad que tiene este equipo para crear jugadas de gol.

Peralta recibe el balón de Benítez que se bota ante el toque de Ludueña , Oribe, solo cachetea de espaldas al arco para dejarsela totalmente a modo a Morales que sin pensarla prende el balón para enviarla al fondo de las redes y con esto romper el caparazón atlista al minuto 11.
Y con el gol ( así como con los movimientos esenciales de mandar a Morales a su lado, y bajar a Guti , sacar a Uriel y meter a Cárdenas para una efectiva línea de 4) cayó el sistema del Atlas, la noche se le vino encima literalmente cuando en solo 5 minutos mas, Benítez recibe una diagonal matona por parte de Chema Cárdenas para matar toda aspiración de triunfo de los de Guadalajara para el 2-0.

Aún faltaba la cereza del pastel, pero antes, vino la entrada del ídolo de la afición, pero con una variante, se dejó al Hacha en el campo y se decidió sacar a Peralta.

El dejar en la cancha a Ludueña, nos redituó en un soberbio gol al minuto 83, recibiendo un balón retrasado por Pony, el Hacha queda en libertad en un espacio donde es letal, levanta la mirada, mira al portero adelantado y toca elevado de forma precisa y preciosa para vencer al arquero y regalarnos un gol de campana que vino a cerrar con broche de oro la goleada a los zorros.
Todavía en lo que restaba, Atlas, fue al frente buscando el de la honra, el cual consiguió debido a un tiro de esquina.
Así, Santos regresa al liderato general ( horas antes, Cruz azul se lo había arrebatado ) compartiéndolo con la maquina en 15 puntos, pero con mejor diferencia de goles en contra, alejándose a 4 puntos de Monterrey y volviendo a la actitud que todos queremos ver en cada juego.
Se viene una visita difícil, ante los gallos de Querétaro pero eso tendrá que esperar hasta 15 días ya que ésta semana próxima, el futbol mexicano se detiene de forma patética, "gracias" a el super importante juego de las "divas" de la Decepción mexicana ante una verdadera Selección, la de Ecuador en un evento más para recaudar dinero que de verdadera preparación, algo muy raro ¿verdad?.
Respecto al no llamado de Santistas a la Decepción, bueno, es algo que no extraña sinceramente, la Selección, está tomada por la mafia de las televisoras desde hace ya mucho tiempo, si a esto le añades los intereses de promotores, pues nos da como resultados, un equipo inflado, sobrevaluado y con resultados mas que patéticos.

 Lejos quedaron las epocas donde realmente se llamaban a los "mejores" o al menos que estaban en su  mejor momento, por si eso fuera poco, mas lejos quedaron aquellos jugadores que literalmente se la partían para estar y seguir en ella, los Bernal, Ambriz, Galindo, Herrera, Heredia, Larios, Pelaez, Sánchez,Aspe, España, Perales, Ramírez, Flores, García entre otros, ponían una vara bastante alta, y si bien se tenían pocos en el extranjero, los locales sacaban el pecho por los colores, y REALMENTE LOS SENTÍAN.
Hoy, lastimosamente, el manoseo de los jugadores así como los petardos que han pasado por ella, han prostituído a un equipo que lo único para lo que sirve en estos momentos ES PARA HACER BILLETES. a costa de los paisas en Estados Unidos. ¡PUNTO!.
En fin, a "disfrutar" del juego de la Decepción esta semana, apoyando al único Santista en la cancha del Estadio "Ovni-Life" y esperando que el Chucho les baile en el poste xD despues de uno o varios goles, es mi mejor deseo.

Ante una entrada pésima y desangelada en el Corona, Santos Laguna vence al Columbus Crew de manera dramática con gol agónico del Guti Estrada que con este tanto se estrena en la Copa Concachampions para júbilo de la poca asistencia que ya sentía un empate frío a cero goles.

No fue un buen partido, de hecho la primera parte solo tuvo uno que otro destello de aproximación, mencion aparte de un gol anulado de forma CORRECTA.

Santos salía con su ya tipico cuadro alternativo sin embargo el Columbus Crew salía con la firme intención de llevarse un punto del TSM pues su idea ofensiva era casi nula, pero aún y con esa idea, tuvo a sus pies un gol que en diferentes instancas habría sido legítimo, pero que gracias al utilero y la falta de seriedad, en el pecado llevaron la penitencia.

El jugador del Crew siendo atendido, de aquí vendría la polémica.

El jugador del Crew había salido a atenderse una herida producto de un codazo en un forcejeo con la mona Olvera, al ser atendido, su jersey se mancha de sangre, lo cambia, PERO lo hacen por un jersey sin numero y sin nombre, entra, aún bajo los reclamos del unico barrera de Santos que en la repetición se nota que se distrae y voltea a ver al arbitro al ejecutar, el jugador sin nombre y numero, recibe el balón, centra templado a la llegada del delantero y gol, balde de agua fría ante la poca gente asistente...pero vinieron los reclamos de los jugadores y cuerpo tecnico del Santos y el arbitro al ver la playera sin los datos necesarios, justifica los reclamos y anula de forma correcta un gol que desde un inicio no debía ni siquiera haber sido cobrado.

Darwin, vino a revolucionar al equipo.

A partir de ahí el Crew se echó para atrás, ( aún mas ), Romano al notar el planteamiento, manda carne al asador, entra Darwin Quintero para darle mas velocidad adelante, algo que consigue pues el segundo tiempo fue completamente verde, llegada tras llegada, el publico ahogaba el grito de gol, no se veía por donde podía entrar el balón, y es que en honor a la verdad no entiendo el porque no estan usando los tiros de media distancia, tan es así que el unico que lo intentó ( Darwin ) pegó en el travesaño y es que no se puede estar mandando centros a diestra y siniestra sin tener alguien por ejemplo a Benítez que es el que mas resorte, peso y estatura creo que tiene para vencer a los defensas gringos.

Santos llegaba consistentemente, sin embargo todo parecía indicar que el Crew lograría llevarse el punto que le sabía a gloria, sin embargo, no contaban con la astucia del joven maravilla y el jugador mas ovacionado a su entrada por Paco Torres. Ivan "el gigante Guti" Estrada.

En una serie de rebotes, Ivan recibe un balón de un contrario y tirando el cuerpo hacia un lado, conecta de bolea un balón difícil y lo manda por una esquina al fondo de las redes para consumar una victoria que se necesitaba en el animo despues de la lamentable actuación en Monterrey.

1-0, todo se habia terminado y Santos consigue consolidar el liderato de grupo en la Concachampions.

La mala entrada del Corona

Podría justificarse de diferentes maneras, PERO mucha atención, creo que Santos Laguna debía de haber previsto que esto pasaría, era un día totalmente ATÍPICO para un juego ( martes ) y si a esto le sumas que mucha gente anda gastada debido al inevitable regreso a clases y término de vacaciones te da como resultado una magra entrada de apenas 5 mil asistentes cuando mucho en un estadio para 30 mil.

No le quiero hacerle al abogado del diablo,¿¿ pero que acaso el "equipo de mercadotecnia" no pudo visualizar y anunciar un descuento, una promoción, ALGO que te genere un interés para asistir a estos juegos de la Concachampions entre semana ??

Parece que no, ¿que le conviene al club? ¿tener estas magras entradas, o ver a un estadio semi lleno con un 2x1 en boletaje pero consumiendo dentro de sus instalaciones?

La gente anda gastada, aparte, LA ACTITUD mostrada por el equipo ( aunque haya sido una alineacion diferente ) en Monterrey, te hacía ver que EL AFICIONADO había quedado muy decepcionado y dolido por haber perdido contra un equipo mucho más chico que el tuyo aún y que no perdiste el liderato general.

Literalmente opino que aquí se les durmió, y los resultados creo que fueron muy claros a la vista.

Ojo señores, ayúdenle al aficionado, piensen promociones que ayuden a atraer la gente para que el consumo en el Corona justifique el porque de las mismas.

Los juegos de Concachampions, NO SON ATRACTIVOS, y desde el juego vs el Juan Pablo Jabloteh muchos lo notamos y lo comentamos, parece ser que los unicos que no se dieron cuenta de ello, fueron uds.

Village Voice

"Village Voice" focuses on the exploits of Northern Alliance side Percy Main Amateurs on last season's promotion campaign, which saw the club return to step 7 of the Non-League pyramid.

The book also covers topics such as the incomprehensible fashion choices of most of the squad, a winter of such severity that the Villagers go 112 days without playing a league game and the need to offer the best quality hot dogs in the Northern Alliance are addressed alongside mere fripperies such as the 2010 General Election by a world-weary, all-seeing author who discovers, despite himself, that his love for Percy Main deepens by the day.

Ian also reminices about his love of the north east non-league scene and of course the goings on at St James Park during the 2009/10 season.

Our destination for this years summer holiday was Playa de las Américas on the beautiful Spanish island of Tenerife, the largest of the seven Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Africa.
The resort is south of the island, in the northern part of the Municipality of Arona and was built in the 1960’s beside the town of Los Cristianos.
The beaches are man-made from imported sand from Africa due to the darkness of the native volcanic sand. Playa de las Americas is known for its busy nightlife with the Veronicas strip, Starco Commercial Centre and the Patch.

I’ve never have much luck ground bagging while on me jollies, we usually plan our vacation in July before the pre-season build up gets underway on the continent, however this year we decided to nick off a few weeks later.
When I booked our hols back in January I honestly didn’t know that our hotel would be on the same road and only a five minute walk from a football stadium, used by local side Club Deportivo Marino.

After regularly checking on the net on possible fixtures I was delighted to get confirmation a few days before departure that CD Marino were playing at home on my last night in the resort, the first match in a four team tournament stretching over three days.
The club were founded in 1936 and currently play in the Tercera Division - Group 12, which is the fourth level of the Spanish football league system, which features 361 teams divided into 18 regional groups.

The Estadio Antonio Dominguez has a capacity of 7,500 and is primarily an athletic stadium which is used by the local community on a daily basis with a gymnasium, boxing club and leisure centre under the main stand.
The grounds main entrance and reception is on the main road which runs through the resort and down towards the beach, but spectator access is gained at the top end behind the goal. Admission is gained by purchasing your ticket at the office then stepping sideways where a gentleman at the gate takes your ticket before callously ripping it in two, giving you half back and dropping the other part in a bucket. I got the left part back and James the right so I’ve just about got a full ticket.(see web album)
Once inside there is a bar with tables and chairs on the concourse which is perched high giving a good view across the stadium and the surrounding mountains. Only half the ground is used by spectators, the concourse with a dozen large concrete blocks in front continues around to the main part of the stand.
The main section of the stand is covered with smart looking wooden beams and supports. Centrally there is a section of blue flip seats with the club name and crest above which is set aside for club officials.
The rest of the ground is made up with banks of lawns and hedgerows with the far side having two large walls with ‘Paronates De Portes Arona’ (Arona Sports Board) on one and the club name and anchor logo set upon painted white stones, with an electric scoreboard in between.

The sparse crowd had a few tourists but was largely made up of locals, amongst those were some very ardent women, who were so passionate that two of them almost came to blows. A heated argument began after an incident on the pitch between two opposing players, in the end one of the ladies had to go and watch the game elsewhere in case she ended up giving to other wifey a dry slap.

The game was the first semi final of the 12th Torneo Sebastian Martin Melo, a competition played amongst four Tenerife based clubs.
CD Marino were due to play the as advertised UD Realejo, but were replaced by CD Igara who most likely wished they hadn’t bothered to fill in after receiving an 8-1 good hiding by the hosts.
The match was a lot closer than the score line suggests, well it was in the first half anyway. The visitors actually look a 9th minute lead, be it against the run of play and it wasn’t until first half stoppage time that Marino overturned the score line.
The second half was a different story as the home side played some fantastic stuff, adding a further six goals and it could have easily been double figures. The score line might suggest that the football was of a poor standard, but both clubs were technically very good, playing the now recognisable short intricate Spanish passing style, but Marino were much superior and were tremendous in the second half.

The following night Raqui San Isidro beat Tenerife B on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the other semi final before the hosts won Saturdays final, winning 4-0 to take the Sebastian Melo.

Me and James enjoyed an entertaining evening in the Estadio Antonio Dominguez, which was a nice wee break from our usual night in the resorts many pubs. However afterwards we hotfooted back to the town centre to return to the female half of the Smudger clan to finish off our last night of what was a fantastic holiday in Tenerife, which was nicely capped off by bagging a new ground.

¡¡...Felicidades aficionados "tí-gue-res"...!!

Extra Extra ( ¿tigres apesta? ) aparte, Tigueres hizo la hombrada y le ganó Santos Laguna por marcador de 1-0, ojo, le ganó al Santos...mas no al superlíder, ni al equipo arrollador, y mucho menos al que estaba arrasando con la liga, la verdad es que ese equipo NUNCA viajó a la cd. de Monterrey, y es que por una extraña razon los Guerreros nunca se vieron en la cancha del circo mas grande del mundo, se perdieron en el camino y en su lugar, enviaron a un grupo de jugadores a los que no se les veía convicción alguna.

Un partido malo, lo tiene cualquiera, es entendible, lo que se destaca para mal, es la pobre actitud mostrada en la cancha ¿3 tiros a gol? ¿1 tiro a media distancia? ¿pues qué paso?.
Después del gol, Santos se veía como si lo que quisiera es que terminara el juego, recoger las cosas e irse de ese estadio, y es que si enlazaban 5 pases era un logro, la media cancha simplemente NO EXISTIÓ; Daniel Ludueña se escondió  ( o lo marcaron muy bien, quiero pensar eso ) y pasó totalmente desapercibido, tan es así, que fue motivo de cambio, solo que en lugar de entrar el que se supone es el cambio de lujo ( Pony Ruiz) metió en su lugar a Paco Torres que igualmente se perdió en el terreno de juego, vamos, simplemente SANTOS nunca se encontró y los cambios en lugar de revolucionar, entraron en el mismo estado somnoliento que los demas se encontraban.
Tampoco es para ser alarmistas y empezar a pedir la cabeza del tecnico, obviamente eso sería absurdo, pero si debemos de hacer notar que desde el juego vs Jaguares, el sistema de Santos ha venido decayendo de manera considerable, ¿ sistema todos atras a complicar? tal vez, y con Tuca no fue la excepción, pero aún con ese sistema, los Tigueres fueron capaces de estrellar varias al palo, mientras que Santos aún estaba viendo a las edecanes de Carta Blanca que dicho sea de paso, estan muchísimo mas buenas que la mugrosa cheve que la patrocina jajajaja.

El partido del sabado, debe --de una vez por todas--, hacerle ver a Romano, que su sistema sin una variable le esta costando que el equipo se parta, sabíamos que así iban a jugar los rivales, y sin embargo creo que la leccion de jaguares no fue aprendida, en lo más mínimo y se esta dependiendo de la magia que hagan solo los 3 de adelante sin incluír a los demás ni haber recambio en caso de que eso no funcione.
La soberbia, y la altanería fueron bajadas de sopetón, y que bueno que fue en esta fecha y no en las ultimas el record para el club, quedó ahí y la presión por mantenerlo espero también se haya quedado en San Nicolas para volver a ver al equipo que volaba al frente jugando por nota y que era un "lujo de ver".
Me extrañó mucho no ver a Rodrigo Ruiz durante los cambios, si algo requería Santos era un booster al frente, y Pony era la opcion adecuada, si ya vas perdiendo, mételo para que sean varias tus opciones al frente y no dejes la idea de que "se pudo haber hecho mas", no critico la entrada de Torres, el cual ha venido teniendo buen torneo en la Concachampions, pero creo que lo mas natural era la entrada de Ruiz TENIENDO a Ludueña dentro.
Y es que el Hacha se nos apachurró como lo había venido haciendo en sus tiempos de indolencia, nunca apareció y si lo hizo fue para hacernos ver que tal vez ese no era su día, o la presión que ejercían los 40 mil espectadores en el circo era demasiada para él, sea como sea el caso, CREEMOS que lo del sabado fue simplemente un mal juego. A muchos les duele la derrota pero ésta tenía que llegar en algún en momento, Jaguares demostró que el equipo no era tan invencible como muchos pensaban ( esos que tiran las campanas al vuelo), y Tigres lo confirmó, ni modo, así es el futbol y si lo que cala es que hayan sido los tristes tígueres, pues eso si ya va de cada uno, aunque lo que mas arde, como dije líneas arriba, es LA ACTITUD MOSTRADA EN LA CANCHA, pues nunca se les vió deseos, ánimos y mucho menos webos para ir tras el empate, respetaron demasiado a un sistema que destruye el espectaculo y la pelota les quemaba los pies, eso es lo que a mi me disgusta como aficionado.

Hasta campanitas creían escuchar con el triunfo

Es cierto que no gusta perder con los de la Sultana, pero todo queda ahí ya habrá revanchas ( en liguilla no creo, normalmente estos gatos dan su maximo esfuerzo en uno o dos juegos y luego vuelven a su patética realidad ) "es que la carrilla vendra buena" ps como dijo Lucerito ¿y? lo peor de todo para ellos es que es lo único que pueden festejar, son mas derrotas, lamentos y lagrimas.
Dejándonos de esas cosas, Tigres mereció ganar, PUNTO, el árbitro no influyo para nada y si le quieren echar a alguien la culpa, que sea al mismo equipo Santos ( obvio, sin caer en excesos como pedir la cabeza del tecnico que AUN nos tiene superlíderes ) porque ¡ah cómo somos buenos para irnos a los límites! primero eramos el invencible y arrasador equipo de mis amores para luego escuchar a unos de un programa y luego decir, "tienen razón, estamos jugando basura y los demás resultados fueron fortuitos" ojo, que muchos piensan así.
¿que viene? el siempre cliente Atlas, el que deberá pagar los platos rotos y con intereses, vienen arrastrando la cobija ( creo que desde hace varios torneos jajaja) PERO, un equipo necesitado es aún mas peligroso por lógica, esperemos que vuelvan a aparecer LOS GUERREROS y den muestra de lo que hicieron las primeras 3 jornadas, tocando el balón de forma segura, haciendo pases a fondo y dejándonos ver el potencial que tienen en sus pies.
Por lo pronto a soportar a los nuevos "campeones" hasta que llegue de nuevo otro equipo y los baje de la pequeá nube que se subieron el sabado, dejar a un lado ese encuentro y ver adelante que aún queda bastante camino por recorrer si es que se quiere volver a la final, nada hemos ganado, pero tampoco nada hemos perdido.

I especially flew in from Tenerife to catch my first game in the Blue Sq Bet Premier League this season. I arrived back in Blighty in the early hours of Saturday morning, then after grabbing a few hours kip, I was out of the house again by 6.30am and off to catch our bus down to Stroud for the Heed’s away game with Forest Green Rovers.

Forest Green Rovers FC hail from Nailsworth in the Stroud district of Gloucestershire, The former small mill town lies in one of the Stroud Valleys in the Cotswolds and has a population of over 6,000.
The town hosts the annual Nailsworth Festival every spring, where local artists exhibit their works in the windows of the high street shops. The festival includes many cultural and street events and a free music festival for local bands - Nailstock, which takes place on one of the town’s playing fields.


The club formed in 1890 as Nailsworth & Forest Green playing in the Stroud & District League, until becoming founder members of the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League in 1922, winning three titles in 1935, 1950 and 1951.
FGR joined another new league, playing seven seasons in the Gloucestershire County League from 1968 until joining the Hellenic League in 1975. In 1981-82 they were league champions and doubled up winning the FA Vase win a 3-0 win over Rainworth Miners Welfare at Wembley.
The following season they progressed into the Southern League, an era which saw a brief name change to Stroud FC in 1989. The decision was an unpopular one so after only three years they reverted back to Forest Green Rovers for the 1992-93 season.
The Green won back to back promotions and are still the currently the longest serving continuous members of the Conference. Last season they finished 21st but thanks to a reprieve courtesy of Salisbury City go into a 13th consecutive season, being in the top league since 1998.
Rovers have reached the final of the FA Trophy on two occasions, which both ended in defeat in 1999 and 2001 and also reached the FA Cup 3rd Round twice, the first of those was a 4-3 defeat to Derby County in January 2009 after leading 2-0, in front of their highest ever attendance of 4836 at The New Lawn.

The Lawn Ground had been home to the club since it was founded in 1890, and remained little more big lawn surrounded by hedges until the club's progression saw a series of upgrades. The ground closed in 1960 and reopened on 19th August 1961 with new terraces, a main stand, a new corner entrance and the sloped pitch was levelled off.
The ground was extended and floodlights erected in 1981. The Trevor Horsley Stand and Barnfield Terrace moved with the club a short distance to The New Lawn in 2006 which was built at a cost of £3m.

The new ground has a capacity of 5,147. The Western Thermal stand is the main stand which has a dozen rows of black seats with FGR picked out in white and 7 boxes at the rear. The stand also has a leisure club, gym, sauna, conference and meeting facilities as well as The Green Man pub.
The original Trevor Horsley Stand is now called the EESI Stand and is allocated to away fans. The stand is fully covered with eight rows of approximately 500 green flip seats.
The rest of the ground is made up of terracing, the East side is open with a scaffold TV gantry, four floodlight pylons and the team dugouts which includes a one man dugout exclusively for the fourth official (never seen that before) The north terrace is covered and now known as the Rockwool Stand
The stadium is fully functional used seven days as part of the Five Valleys Conference & Leisure Centre and was officially opened in September 2006 when the England C team played a friendly fixture against Forest Green.

Both teams settled for a share of the spoils in an entertaining open game at The New Lawn, this despite of the inconsistencies of a pernickety man in black.
Rovers started the game brightly and early pressure paid off, taking the lead in the 10th minute when a precision through ball from Lee Fowler found Reece Styche with plenty of time and space to score.
The lead was almost doubled ten minutes later when a close range shot from Mike Fowler was brilliantly tipped onto the crossbar by Deasy, then the woodwork came into play again as a Marwood shot clipped the top of the bar to almost draw the visitors level.
On the hour mark Gateshead made a double substitution, going with a more attacking formation and they reaped the benefit almost immediately, a Baxter cross was met with a glancing header from recent signing Gary Mulligan for his first goal in a Gateshead shirt.
Rovers were gifted a golden chance to take all three points when the referee awarded a penalty after an innocuous trip on Styche by Turnbull, but Deasy made a great save to deny Herring and assure that the Heed made the long trip back to the north east with a well earned point.

I collapsed into deep sleep by the time we reached Durham, awoken when our minibus came to a halt at the M1 services in Derbyshire for our half hour rest stop.
We arrived in Nailsworth at 1pm. Those of you who have been to The New Lawn will know that the ground is situated up a long winding mile long steep hill.
I had planned to go into the village for a drink but I just couldn’t be chewed to walk there and back, besides The Green Man’ had Wychwood and Marston’s real ales on offer, comfy settees and football on the box, so I was quite content to stay put.
A few of the lads had enquired about a taxi, but were told the nearest cab firm was in Stroud and just for starters they would charge £15 for having to make the 4 mile trip to pick you up! What a rip off! The words - the piss, taking, and surely, spring to mind.
After a long day I arrived back home at 11pm, finally feeling that I was back from my holidays. Although I was totally “cattle trucked” I still enjoyed the day, so overall it was well worth flying back for.

¡¡ Ah no, bueeeno !!

En una verdadera exhibición de tiro y de la mano del Chema Cardenas que se destapó con 4 goles el solito, los Guerreros del Santos Laguna,  vencen a un débil Joe Public por marcador de 2-5 en el arranque de la fase de grupos de la Copa Concachampions.
Dicen que no hay rival fácil, pero la verdad es que el nivel de ambas escuadras es abismal, y es que aún y que los guerreros salen al campo con un cuadro totalmente "alternativo" ( titular en varios otros planteles) arrasan con estos equipos tan comunes en esta Copa, que si buscara "elevar" su nivel, primero debería eliminar a cuadros así y luego entonces,  ya mandar traer a los demás, aunque en honor a la verdad, sirven bien de sparring para seguir metiendo a los Salinas, Toledo, Martínez, Hoyo, Lopez y Enríquez, éste ultimo autor del ultimo gol del encuentro, y es que les vas dando confianza, fogueo y sobre todo, el famoso "timming" con el balón, para probablemente ser tomados en cuenta en algún imprevisto que esperamos no suceda en un corto tiempo.

Como en dulcería, los goles del Chema Cardenas fueron de todos colores y sabores, bonita jugada con Oribe al 9, Zurdazo pegado al palo al 24, Golazo acomodándose y pegando al palo contrario al 66, y cabesazo a centro de Pony al 76 y cerrando el ciclo, Enríquez al 91 a pase, ¿de quién mas? Pony Ruiz.

A destacar, un OSOTE de Miguel Becerra que nadie sabe que es lo que intentó hacer, al ver pasar el balón de forma hasta caricaturesca,  yo creo que se sintió portero argentino ( ya ven que siempre la sacan con la mirada ) pero le falló el calculo de forma...híjole, como decirlo...pues muy feo jajajaja, creo que estos errores, si bien en este juego, fue "inofensivo" la verdad es que deben ser una seria llamada de atención, porque ya en otras instancias esto podría haber causado alguna eliminación y tirar a la borda todo el trabajo del grupo, cuidado con eso.
El Segundo gol del Public, un trallazo donde si bien dicen que podía hacer algo ya que se tiró tarde ( al mismo poste del anterior osote) la verdad es que si iba como una raya el balón, así que ese podría considerarse como un gol, "normal".

Así Santos reafirma su paso goleador, le da juego a su plantel, los resultados se le dan su juego en conjunto se fortalece y ahora, a cambiar la mira y dirigirla directamente al circo mas grande del mundo, "El Volcán", para no perder la costumbre, el video con los goles, que ya sinceramente me dio flojera contar para sacar el total de los goles anotados en ambos torneos.

Ante un casi-lleno Estadio Corona, Santos Laguna batalló para sacar de su concha a unos patéticos Jaguares que metieron el camión ( las maletas ya estaban dentro de la cancha)  para no dejar jugar y destruir todo lo que es bien llamado Futbol Espectáculo.
No soy exagerado, pero su linea de 1-9-1 era mas que visible, su jugador mas adelantado, estaba ¡en medio campo!, y sin duda que eso complica hasta al mas pintado, y por mas que Santos buscaba los espacios era difícil al toparse con una pared llena de gatos agazapados atrás, jugando al "no perder" y esperando un destello algo que pudiera causar el milagro y llevarse el puntito a Chiapas, obviamente eso no sucedió.
Christian Benítez, al inicio del segundo tiempo ( y gracias a unas chelas bien heladas, no pude ver el gol, maldita sea ) toma el balón, cede a Ludueña en pared cantada, Chucho recibe, mete segunda y adelanta el balón para definir con un golazo y vencer por fin esa ostra llamada Jaguares, ante la algarabía de la gente que se dió cita en el TSM.

El 1-0 estaba ya en la frente de los Chiapanecos, era momento de abrirse y ahora si ( y solo así ) buscar la portería contraria al verse abajo en el marcador.
Y es ahí donde yo digo que Oswaldo Sanchez fué la figura, ya que  demostro ( una vez mas) su calidad indiscutible, conteniendo una media tijera asi como otras dos aproximaciones peligrosas que llegaron hasta su meta, y es que debemos decirlo, Santos Laguna mostró serias desatenciones en la zaga que Jackson se encargaba de mostrar con su velocidad, así como la habilidad de Danielihno hicieron que al menos en 3 ocasiones muchos nos quedaramos con el Jesús en la boca.
Viendo esas jugadas es cuando uno se pregunta, ¿por qué no salir a jugar así desde el inicio?, demostrar lo que tienes y jugar al tú por tú y no dar un espectaculo deplorable asesinando el buen futbol todo en pos de una miseria llamada empate, ok, estoy de acuerdo, Jaguares requiere de rascar puntos de donde sea debido a su posición, pero jugando de la forma que lo hicieron los primeros 45 min, dudo mucho que logren obtener los puntos necesarios para su salvación.

 Vaaalgame el Señor...

El juego en sí, fue aburrido ( la chela, las guerreritas y la belleza en las tribunas lo hizo mas pasable jajajaja ) fueron muy pocas las opciones de gol, pero sirve para darnos cuenta que Santos no es un equipo invencible, y esas llegadas peligrosas que se dieron, esperemos le den la pauta a Romano para ver en donde este equipo puede ser atacado y con esto ajustar las tuercas necesarias para despues no lamentarnos.
La racha que ha tomado Santos Laguna, nos hace ilusionarnos, lo mejor del juego, fueron sin duda, los 3 puntos conseguidos, que saben tan bien como la cheve bien helada que distribuyen los cazafantasmas ( los chavos que traen los barriles de Corona en la espalda con el sagrado líquido vital jajajaja ) en cada juego de local, pero nos debemos dar cuenta que los equipos que nos visiten, vendrán a eso, a agazaparse atrás esperando que el Santos se desespere, para luego intentar salir a buscar un gol y volver a meterse atras de forma ratonera.

Los guerreros, ahora se preparan para ir a tierras regias, para visitar a los "tí-gue-res" de la UANL, en un duelo que no dudo que los regios darán el 110% para vencer al equipo sensación del torneo y con esto ponerse en el firmamento por un momento y dejar su mediocre, grisáceo y patético nivel habitual al que están tan acostumbrados, juego que por cierto quiero creer y esperemos que no vaya por SKY porque de los 4 juegos que Santos lleva, la mitad ya la lleva por ese pinche sistema, ya no mamen!.
Un duelo difícil se viene, ya que el estilo de Tuca no es muy distante al de los Jaguares, es decir, un equipo echado atrás, buscando el contragolpe con "el bestia" Batista al frente, buscando un milagro y si se puede un puntito, ese es el "Tucastyle" y dudo que vaya a cambiar, por lo pronto a seguir disfrutando de el liderato general, ése que le cala a muchos medios nacionales, donde no pueden ver a otros equipos que no sean los anticuados "grandes" ( esos que ultimamente dan mas pena que lástima, a excepción de Chivas que merecimiento tiene de llegar a la final de la Libertadores, hay que darle su justo espacio. ).
Pero aunque les arda a todos esos aficionados y medios de otros equipos.

Figueirense Futebol Clube (Brazil)

Figueirense come from the Southern Brazilian city of Florianópolis - capital of the island state of Santa Catarina. It's is one of the beachiest regions in Brazil, with 42 in the city alone. No wonder that with some of the few West-facing series of beaches in the country that it's become one of the most populat surfing destinations on the South American continent. The team formed in 1921 as Figueirense Foot-ball Club, although they thankfully Braziled it up a few years later.

Their first big flush of success was in the 1930s, when they won five state titles (this was long before the days when there was a national football league), winning it again in 1941. This was when their early run of wins ended, though, and it was another 31 years before they won their next title. But things soon picked up again in the seventies and eighties, and in total they've won their state title a total of 15 times. The best that they've done since the game has gone national is a couple of runner's-up slots, in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B in 2001, and the Copa do Brasil in 2007.

They've since returned to Série B, the second tier of Brazilian football, where they have spent most of their career, playing in the 19,908 capacity Orlando Scarpelli stadium. As you may have guessed by their name, they are rather a fig-based club. Comeing from the neighbourhood of, Figueirense, which means Of The Fig Tree, they have a fig tree on their club crest, their nickname is The Fig Tree, and their club mascot is even an anthropomorphised fig tree called Figueirinha, who is, to be absolutely honest, slightly frightening.

Juventus FC (Italy)

Juventus are one of a very small few clubs who can lay claim to being the biggest club in the world. The third most successful club in European history (after AC Milan and Real Madrid), they're also the most supported club in Europe with an estimated 170 million fans around the world, and it is reckoned that one in three Italian football fans follow the Juve.

They were formed in 1897 as Sport Club Juventus by Massimo D'Azeglio Lyceum school in Turin. They joined the Italian Football league in 1900, and it only took them five years until they won their first of many Scudettos. Since then they have spent their entire history in the top flight - bar the 2006/07 season when they were relegated as punishment for being part of the Italian Match Fixing Scandal.

But they didn't always play in the black and white stripes. For the first six years of their existence they played in rather snazzy pink shirts with a natty black tie - although they claim it was because the wrong ones got delivered before their first match... yeah, we've tried that one too. They changed them to the more familiar stripes in 1903 when their old ones started to fade, so sent to England for a shipment of Notts County shirts.

They've led a nomadic life and have had a number of home grounds over the years. For the first couple of years they played at the Parco del Valentino and Parco Cittadella, before settling on Piazza d'Armi Stadium for a few years, unitl 1908 (aside from a couple of seasons where they nipped over to the Corso Re Umberto. After that they lived at the Corso Sebastopoli Camp until 1922 and then spent the next eleven years at Corso Marsiglia Camp. It wasn't until 1933 that they settled on a more regular home, the Stadio Benito Mussolini - although they changed the name Stadio Comunale Vittorio Pozzo after the war for some reason. And there they stayed until 1990, when they moved into the Stadio delle Alpi, built for the 1990 World Cup - although in 2006 they moved back to Mussolini's old gaff, now renamed again to the Stadio Olimpico di Torino for a few seasons while they do up the Alpi.

In total they've won 27 league titles (also coming second another 20 times), nine Coppa Italias, Four Italian Supercups, and the Serie B title after their year in disgrace. On top of that they were the first club to win the European, UEFA and Cup Winners Cup, as well as the Intertoto Cup and the UEFA Super Cup, and when they won the Intercontinental Cup they became the first club side in the world to have won every available international competition. No wonder on of their many nicknames is Italy's Girlfriend.

Newcastle United (England)

The Toon are possibly one of the most famous and best loved clubs to have ever donned the black and white stripes, and are one of those sides that everyone has a soft spot for... unless they live on the Wear. That they are persistant underachievers makes the near-global love for the club all the more heartening, and their long-suffering fans are among the most loyal and good-humoured that you'll find anywhere. But how much do you really know about Newcastle United?

They were formed in 1892 after the merger of two much older local clubs, Newcastle East End (formed in 1881) and Newcastle West End (formed in 1882). West End were in financial difficulties and approached the more successful East End, their fierce rivals from the Northern League, about a merger. East End were happy to cherry pick the Westerners' best players, while the Eastenders were quite happy to go and play at the much superior St James Park. And so a team were born. The new club toyed with a few names, like Newcastle Rangers and Newcastle City, before deciding that United would be far more apt, considering.

In the early days they kept on playing in East End's red strip until 1894, when after one-too- many kit clashes they changed to the black and white strip that they've made so famous. They joined the Football League soon after, and not long later, just after the turn of the century, they won the title three times - in 1905, 1907 and 1909. The same era saw them appear in five FA Cup finals in seven seasons - although they won just the one of them... setting the scene for the exploits of the next 100 years or so.

But it's the period from the 1950s to the 1960s that is said to be their golden era. They had three FA Cup wins in five years the fifties, but that success briefly fizzled out and they found themselves back in the old Second Division. But 1965 saw them win promotion coming top of the table, and by the late sixties they were regular faces in Europe, winning the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup (a pre-cursor of the Europa League) in 1969.

But life as a Newcastle fan sees you become used to the ebb and flow of success. The 1980s saw them back in Divison Two and looking like they might plunge even further. But the unlikely appointment of the untried Kevin Keegan. The 1990s saw them not only save themselves from third-tier ignominy, but gain promotion and even come perilously close to winning another title. They even had another couple of glorious seasons in Europe.

But pretty soon, as is his way, Keegan walked out, and under a succession of high-profile managers they began another of their gradual declines that led to their eventual, almost unthinkable relegation in 2009. But they bounced straight back, so who knows, they might well be back on another of their upwards climbs, and the next period of glory days could soon be on the horizon.

They still play at West End's old ground St James Park, although it's a bit bigger these days. Now it's a massive 52,387 capacity megalith right on the edge of Newcastle's city centre. So tall is this, the third largest club stadium in England, that from the back of the away stand you can see ships sailing up the Tyne to the open sea.

They've also got one heck of a list of famous alumni. Jackie Milburn, Ivor Allchurch, Joe Harvey, George Robledo, Malcolm MacDonald, Kevin Keegan, Peter Beardsley, Chris Waddle, Paul Gascoigne, David Ginola, Les Ferdinand and latterly Alan Shearer - every one of them near legendary and picked from a list that could have been three times as long.



In total their trophy cabinet has glistened to four league titles, six FA Cup wins, an Inter-City Fairs Cup victory and a host of smaller knock out tournament wins. But more tellingly they've been league runners up twice and losing FA Cup finalists a massive seven times. They're they club the phrase 'nearly men' could have been written for. So could the fanatically loyal Toon Army ever have another few seasons in the sun? History suggests that it's an inevitability.
