A midweek trip to Histon FC, who are based approximately 3 miles north of Cambridge in the twin villages of Histon and Impington. The journey down to Cambridgeshire was made courtesy of Torchey Travel’s executive car (est.2008) the most comfortable and reliable way to see the Heed Army on the road.

Histon Institute F.C. formed in 1904, originating from the Chivers jam company, the major employer in the area, whose Chairman John Chivers helped to form the Histon Institute in 1903. The company donated a rose covered field for the team to play on, which is commemorated in the rose on club’s crest. They played their formative years in the Cambridgeshire Football League, dropping the Institute tag from their name in 1952.

In 1960 the club joined the Delphian League for three years until the league disbanded with the affiliated clubs joined the Athenian League. A switch to the Eastern Counties League in 1965 saw “the Stutes” play in the ECL leagues for the next 35 years, as the competition switched to a two tier format in 1988.

The club have made rapid strides since the turn of the millennium, beginning with winning the ECL Premier Division title in1999–2000. Histon went on to win promotion from the Southern League East Division in their third season and followed up this achievement by becoming Southern League Premier Champions at the first attempt.
In their first Conference South season in 2005-06 they finished in 5th place, but missed out in the play-offs, losing the final 2-0 to St Albans City, however the following season the club were league champions, clinching their fourth promotion in 7 years.
The club finished off a remarkable decade by finishing 7th in their first Conference season, with the club’s biggest home attendance of 3,721 seeing Histon beat local rivals Cambridge United 1-0 on New Years Day.
They finished third in their second season, qualifying for the play-offs, where they were defeated 2–1 on aggregate by Football League bound Torquay United in the semi-final. However the highlight of that season was reaching the 3rd round of the FA Cup for the first time, after beating both Swindon Town and Leeds United 1–0 at home they succumbing to Swansea City, 2-1 at home in the 3rd round. The Leeds United cup tie saw a new record crowd of 4,103 as well as a national TV audience on the Beeb witnessing the most memorable day in the club’s history.

Bridge Road is now know as The Glassworld Stadium and has a capacity of 3,800 with approximately 1,700 covered seats
The original Recreation Ground was repositioned due to road works in early 1960’s,with the B1049 road built across the old ground. The pitch was re-laid and an elevated stand was built in 1964. Floodlights were added in December 1984 before a match with Arsenal.
The stadium has undergone major redevelopment in recent years, bringing the facilities up to the required standard to host Conference football and eligible to host League Two if the club should ever progress.

The Main Stand has a capacity of approximately 400. The clubhouse is at the top of the stand which looks directly out towards the pitch, with access gained via a staircase at the front, situated behind each dugout. The stand has been extended with an extra 500 seats added when the Cambridgeshire FA set up their headquarters at the ground in 2007.
The stand at the far side runs pitch length with five rows of red flip seats with a capacity of 800, which was completed in April 2008.
There has full cover behind each goal. The away supporters are giving the Bridge Road end, while opposite is the Rec End which was completed with extra cover added in 2008.
These three sides are similar in size and have been linked together by an advertising fascia board which runs around the top of the roof and finishes off the ground to give it a much smarter appearance.
The Glassworks Stadium is now owned by Histon Football Club Holdings trust, who guarantee the use of the facility for sports purposes, with the football club able to use the ground rent free.

Craig “Nelly” Nelthorpe scored twice as Gateshead’s good run of form continued with a comfortable win in Cambridgeshire.
Gateshead took an early lead when Gary Mulligan got on the end of a Jon Shaw header to poke the ball home from close range.
The Tynesiders went close with headers by Curtis and Shaw, until Nelthorpe doubled the lead with a goal of the season contender.
The winger ran on to a flicked header from Shaw to unleash a 30-yard volley with the outside of his left foot, to leave home keeper Joe Welch clutching fresh air.
The hosts offered little threat in the second half, with boss David Livermore reluctant to make any changes, only making one substitution with just ten minutes remaining.
The Heed wrapped up victory in the dying minutes with a second goal from Nelthorpe, getting on the end of a good run and cross from Fisher to produce a tidy finish.
There was still time for Omar Riza to pull one back from the penalty spot in injury time, after a trip on substitute Adjei, which made the score line look a bit more respectable as overall Gateshead dominated the match throughout against a very poor Histon side.

Torchey Travel departed Gateshead at 1.15pm, the journey went pretty smoothly, arriving in Histon by 5pm. The car was taking up by Squad#51 John Young (aka Torchey) Simon Heedgroundsman and co-driver Kav, who produced an impressive performance behind the wheel to get us there and back in good time.
Since my last trip with Mr Young he has developed a love of Gaelic Scottish Mouth Music, which myself and the other two passengers had to reluctantly listen to, meaning at times we felt like our ears were bleeding as he blasted it out through the car’s CD system.
On departure I requested if possible, to arrive at the ground while it was still light, so I could get some decent pictures before nightfall. Luckily on arrival there was an open door into the stadium, so I was free to walk the perimeter of the ground and get the photographs I wanted. (it was as if someone was expecting me and left the door off the latch)
We stopped off for drinks at the Rose and Crown and bait at the Railway View. It was here that Kav, who is well known within the Heed Army to be quite frugle with his money, mentioned that he should have came into the ground with me earlier and stayed there until kick-off, hence saving fourteen quid! The thought of a big lad like Kav trying to hide behind a seat for two hours to save some money would have been a sight to behold, and knowing him, he would have probably gotten away with it.
You may remember earlier in the season I came straight from my holidays and within hours I was off to see Gateshead play at Forest Green. Well John was doing the same thing but in reverse, as he was off to Magaluff when he got back home, having to be at Newcastle Airport for 4am, because of this we were back on the road straight after the full time whistle.
After disappointing away day Tuesday’s last season, how great it was to endure the long journey home with three points in the bag and a great performance from the lads. Having slept most of the way home I arrived back at 1.30am, content with not just the win, but the first class service provided by Torchey Travel, all for the value for money fare of just seventeen English pounds.

pero bien que cuando falló de forma miserable en la final y que gracias a él PERDIMOS si festejó y hasta había fotos sonriendo, bebiendo y festejando la derrota ¡nombre!, todo un profesional. Ya que mas daba que festejara los goles en contra, total  y como bien dijo una señorita en Facebook.

Solo contra el mundo, Benítez intenta quitarse la doble marca

 Sin embargo y dejando a un lado la dedicación que este tipo solo en este juego, nos brindó a todos los guerreros ( porque no creo que vuelva a verse así durante el torneo) lo que nos debe de ocupar, es la forma tan patética que nuestro equipo “defiende” con su inútil línea de 5, o de la COBARDIA que sigue mostrando su técnico al desperdiciar 45 minutos con solo un delantero siendo que lo que mejor hace santos –en teoría- es atacar. (ah!, pero que si otro equipo le hace eso “le molesta”y critica a los otros entrenadores).
Si a esto le sumas la baja de juego de jugadores clave como Darwin, Oribe, Ludueña, Cárdenas y la infumable presencia de un Jonnathan Lacerda que lo único que hace actualmente en el equipo es ESTORBAR, nos da como resultado que el castillo de arena llamado Santos poco a poco está desmoronando y lo poquito que creó durante las primeras fechas se esta cayendo a pedazos y todo gracias a la soberbia de la frase “crea fama y échate a dormir”.

Primero fue el invicto, luego, el liderato general, luego el liderato de Concachampions y ahora, el liderato de grupo es abandonado debido a las malas actuaciones del equipo ( ya nomas falta que Benítez deje el liderato de goleo) que al inicio del torneo arrasaba con todos sus oponentes gracias a la fuerza de ataque que demostró y que AL COBARDE DE NUESTRO TECNICO no logra convencer, mientras se empeña en amarrar al equipo con 5 tipos atrás creyendo que así “defenderá mejor” y los laterales “volaran”.La Defensa lagunera, es una broma de mal gusto, los goles -que les están cayendo por racimos- son producto de una falta de RESPONSABILIDAD por su desempeño al no ver compromiso en las marcas y siempre esperar “que otro haga su trabajo”.

 Para variar, la inclusión obligada de Uriel “todos me regañan” Alvarez nos arroja que Santos seguirá con esa línea sacrificando el buen futbol que se presenta cuando cambian a línea de 4 con 3 medios y 3 ofensivos con una armería que es letal y temida por los demás equipos.El juego de ayer, aparte de dejarnos una cruda espantosa, ( por cierto, un agradecimiento Samuel Urista por proporcionar la casa y unas ricas hamburguesas que si se dedicara a vender, se haría rico) nos deja un mundo de inseguridades respecto al accionar de nuestros guerreros.
Y es que NO ES POSIBLE que los goles tempraneros en lugar de dar tranquilidad, confianza y motivos para manejar el partido, NOS CHINGUEN y en lugar de ir por mas, se prefiera ratonear para cuidar ese magro resultado siendo que nuestra defensa sólo tiene de defensa el nombre, porque la convicción y el compromiso, simplemente no existe.
Para variar, y muy triste de comentar, el juego de Peralta y Darwin, ¡por Dios!, no me había encabronado tanto como en el juego de ayer, y es que les dan balones y devuelven sandías, no retienen, todo les rebota, no agarran nada y desgraciadamente son las primeras opciones en entrar, mientras que Pony es la tercera opción y a veces ni eso.

 ¡No me rompas las pelotas boludo! 

Tuvo que estar América arriba en el marcador y con un hombre menos, para que nuestro “temerario” técnico echara toda la carne al asador, y ahora si, se dedicara a mandar al equipo al frente con 4 jugadores netamente ofensivos, sacando al “todos me regañan” Alvarez ( en honor a la verdad, yo hubiera sacado a Lacerda…pero del país caon ) a Daniel “Juego cuando quiero” Ludueña y a Chema “ando perdido” Cárdenas para la inclusión de Oribe, Darwin y Pony, de ellos, el único rescatable por su nivel, sería el Pony, porque los otros dos ni como ayudarlos después de haber visto su accionar ayer.
No hay excusas para justificar la derrota, America salió inspirado y dando el 110% para vencer a un rival que en el papel ES MEJOR LINEA POR LINEA ( la ironía aquí, consiste en que según ellos, antes era al revés, los otros daban el 110, para vencerlos ) Memo Ochoa, tuvo una vez mas, una tarde de esas que lo han llevado a ser considerado de los mejores porteros de México, y que le valió la sarta de pendejadas que el pendejo de Francisco Villa decía en la transmisión, viéndose de lo mas PUTO y puñal que pueda haber ( y eso que su ética no les permite tener “favoritos” si no, ufff, olvídense, hubiera bajado al terreno de juego a darle unas cabeceadas ).

Disculpen que no narre el resumen, sinceramente no tengo ni los animos, ni las ganas de hacerlo, y es que entristece a uno como aficionado que lo poco logrado en una campaña que pintaba para arrasar, poco a poco se este esfumando debido la soberbia del técnico por no saber reconocer que su planteamiento táctico simplemente es PATÉTICO y que URGE buscar otras alternativas si no quiere que este equipo se parta y le empiecen a tender la camita debido a planteamientos ABSURDOS Y COBARDES. 

Ayer, Santos Laguna dio 45 minutos pésimos, con pelotazos de forma estúpida brincando lo que se supone es una de las mejores medias del torneo mexicano ¿y el técnico a poco no veía eso? ¿O esa era su táctica? Mandar al viva Villa ( no tito) a ver si en alguna Benítez que junto con Pony, Estrada, Oswaldo y Juan pablo se la están rifando sosteniendo el peso de todo el grupo que se ha echado a la hamaca creyendo que su sola presencia ganará los encuentros.

¿por qué un solo delantero? ¿tanto temor le tenía del“poderoso” América? Si tenía la oportunidad de irse al liderato general y de alejarse a 2 pts del Monterrey en su lucha en el grupo, pero ni con esos objetivos a la vista, los pupilos de Romano fueron capaces de concentrarse para evitar que les rematen en el centro del area chica o que ni siquiera se pongan de acuerdo para salir correctamente en línea luego de ver que a Lacerda le estorba su estatura y que no sabe cabecear defensivamente, si no mal recuerdo, este chavo esta a préstamo, pues vayan de una vez dándole las gracias, prefiero MIL VECES que se equivoque Kanú, el mismo Uriel o algún otro chavo de cantera que este señor.

¡No los ayudes compadre! 

Para variar, y si no fuera suficiente tener encima la cobardía del técnico, el “coraje profesional” del tatuado, las tonterías de la defensa y –literalmente-las mamadas de los cronistas de televisa, el árbitro Gasso se comió un penal claro hacia Darwin Quintero y no conforme con eso, hasta amonestó al lagunero por fingir la falta.En la repetición, la falta se ve clarísima, pero, vuelven las mamadas de los cronistas diciendo “no hay nada”, ¡por Dios! No puede ser posible tanta inobjetividad, no se puede estar tan marcadamente apoyando a un equipo, lo peor de todo, solo hubo UNO ( Raul Sarmiento) el cual si dijo que había contacto porque el joto de Villa y Peláez ( que nunca ha superado su ardides de haber perdido aquí una final ) no salían de que:
1.- no era penal
2.- no era expulsión a pesar de que el americanista entro con los tachones por delante y golpeando al rival.

Simplemente que chinguen a 20, no hay nada mas que decir. 
Que viene ahora, Santos recibe primero al Joe Public entre semana, para luego recibir el sabado en casa al siempre incómodo Toluca, esperemos que ahora sin el "abanicador/falla penales" pero siempre respetuoso "porque no festeja los goles" podamos vencer a los diablos y volver a la senda del triunfo para no alejarnos demasiado de los punteros.

I made use of a weekend break, visiting relations in Lincolnshire to travel down to the large market town of Northampton in the East Midlands.
Northamptonshire’s county town lies on the River Nene and is well known as a major centre of shoemaking and leather industries. Many of the town’s old shoe factories remain, most of which have been converted into office space or accommodation, with some still surrounded by terraced houses which were built for the factory workers.

Northampton Town were founded in 1897. The county’s schools were keen on schoolboy football so meetings between schoolteachers and local solicitor A.J. Darnell took place with plans to form a town team instead of playing inter-school friendlies.
The club officially formed on 6th March 1897, at the Princess Royal Inn on Wellingborough Road, with the club agreeing to ground share with Northamptonshire County Cricket Club.
Before a ball was kicked the town’s rugby club objected to the club’s name of Northampton FC, so the Town suffix was added to their name and they began playing competitive football in the Northants League, becoming league champions in their second season.
The Cobblers played home matches at the County Ground for the next 97 years, joining the Midlands League in their third season and the Southern League in 1901-02 season, before becoming a Football League club after World War II.
The Cobblers football statto claim to fame is their record for the shortest time taken to be promoted from the bottom tier to the top tier and back down again in the space of nine years.
They played their only season in the top division in 1965-66, having been promoted from the Fourth Divison in the space of five seasons but were then relegated back to the Fourth Division by 1969–70.

Sixfields Stadium was built and designed by Dutch contractors Bellast Nedham, with the aid of Tyneside based architects Taylor, Tulip and Hunter (I’m their postman..Morning!) and structural engineers Hutter Jennings and Titchmarsh.
After the 65 acre site was cleared, building work on the council owned facility started in January 1994. The 7,653 capacity all seated stadium on the outskirts of town was built at a cost of £5.25 million, made up from a £4.25m contribution from the council and a further £1m from the Football Trust.
The stadium had been scheduled to open for the start of the 1994-95 season, but due to delays the first game took place on 15th October. Barnet provided the opposition for a Division Three clash with the honour of the first goal going to Martin Aldridge in a 1-1 draw in front a near full house of 7,461.

The stadium is made up of four separate stands. Behind each goal are The David Bowen Stand which is named after the ex-Northampton Town player and manager, and opposite is the South Stand for away supporters which both have a capacity of approximately 900 seats.
The Alwyn Hargrave East Stand is of a similar height, but with a large gangway at the rear for disabled supporters. The stand runs pitch length and is also used as the Family Enclosure with a capacity of 1,800.
The West Stand is twice the size of the other stands with a capacity of 4,000. The stand also has the club offices and main reception, ticket office, changing rooms and supporters bar, as well as a club shop on the south west corner.
The stadium is decked out in claret seats with NTFC picked out in white lettering on the East Stand, there’s also a small scoreboard on the back of the building in the south-west corner.
The best feature of the ground is the view from the large hill which overlooks the stadium, which meant I could get some good pictures of the ground before I had even set foot in the place. During the first half there were a couple of passers by who stopped and watched the game for nowt through the opening in the north-west corner, but they weren’t lucky enough to see any goal action.
The atmosphere around Sixfields Stadium was buzzing after the midweek victory at Anfield in the League Cup. Their reward for knocking out Liverpool was a 4th round draw away to Ipswich Town, which was met with a shade of disappointment although I heard the phrase “We’ll DO them as well” mentioned by a few of the Town fans.
Because of this fantastic result, coupled with Newcastle’s equally astonishing win at Chelsea, meant I headed off from Lincolnshire to Northampton, not sure whether or not my final destination was Sixfields, just in case both clubs met in the next round.
The odds of Northampton drawing Newcastle were pretty remote, but I still got my mate Zippy to text me the outcome of the draw, as I’d rather tick off Northampton while watching United play there, than go as a neutral. I also had a Plan B lined up (Stewarts & Lloyds Corby in the FA Cup) just in case, but obviously the draw panned out as we all expected, the reward for beating Chelsea is - Arsenal. (and people wonder why NUFC haven’t won anything for a long time…Eddy)
Northampton showed no cup hangover as they overcame a stubborn Bradford defence with two goals in the second half.
The opening period was a scrappy affair, the hosts best efforts coming directly from free-kicks from Kevin Thornton, while City came closest to scoring when a Moult effort produced a fine save from Dunn.
The Cobblers improved as the game progressed and were patient enough to break down Bradford’s resistance with a goal just after the hour. A Tozer free kick from the half way line was nodding over by Holt into the path of McKay, who turned the ball in from ten yards.
The win was guaranteed with just under ten minutes remaining, a deep cross was headed back into the centre by McKay for Newcastle loanee Ben Tozer to open his account on his Northampton league debut.
This win rounded off a fantastic week in the history of Northampton Town. I had this fixture picked out early in the season so it’s pleasing that my visit coincided with a great atmosphere around the club after such a fine achievement. The Cobblers could well reach the League Cup quarter-finals if they can DO! Ipswich that is, which will be better than my own (looks likely..Eddy) as well as a few other big Premier League clubs have managed to do this season.

Nomás les faltó meter al Utilero...

* Infame juego "tactico" del Necaxa

* Chucho, nos salva de un gris empate

* Baloy, como los grandes.

* A Santos, se le olvidó tirar de media distancia.

* Perfectos en casa.

Un verdadero trabuco resultó el cuadro ratonero del Necaxa, que con todo y camión, maletas, chofer, y hasta el utilero, salieron a defender un mísero punto en busca de un mediocre y gris empate que les hubiera sabido a gloria, pero que gracias al Chucho Benítez, esto no se llegó a dar.
Ante un Estadio Corona casi lleno DENTRO del complejo Territorio Santos Modelo ( porque parece que nomás no acaban de entender el nombre ) Santos Laguna mantuvo su paso perfecto en casa, y Chucho Benítez consiguió su gol numero 9 para afianzarse como líder general de goleo en el presente torneo, mientras Santos llegó a 18 puntos a 3 del líder Cruz Azul y empatado en puntos con el Monterrey que no suelta prenda alguna.

¡Atasco!...perdon, Apasco presente jejeje.

¡¡Que forma de matar al futbol!!

"Listos, todos atrás y chin chin el que cruce medio campo"

Con una marcada línea de HASTA 8 en la parte defensiva, el Necaxa se defendía cual vil gato boca arriba, teniendo como hombre mas adelantado a un jugador EN MEDIA CANCHA ( hagame ud. el chingado favor), desgraciadamente, este tipo de equipos ( Rayos, Tígueres Y PROXIMAMENTE AMERICA) se le atraganta en demasía a Santos, y empieza a mostrar esa desesperación por no lograr concretar ocasionándo que sus propios elementos se vean hasta superados en su falta de creatividad para llegar al frente.
Aún así, a Santos lo sigo viendo diferente, no están jugando de la forma alegre ( bueno, seamos sinceros, contra estos patéticos equipos, ¿quién juega alegre? cuando sólo se dedican a destruír) y todavía en ese ratonerismo encuentran goles, es lo peor de todo.
Necaxa se fué al frente del marcador gracias a un balón parado peinado y rematado en el área chica por el More Mosqueda ( el cual, se vió bastante ridículo con ese bailecito ).

Baloy recibiendo amarilla, porque lo tumbaron...aunque ud. no lo crea.

Nuevamente nos hacen daño a balón parado y nuevamente para variar, nuestra defensa está mas preocupada en el arbitro que en la jugada en sí, ya que en acciones pre-cobro del tiro, Baloy y Oribe se enfrascaron y se  engancharon con el colmillo de los necaxistas, para colmo, el árbitro ( en una actuación bastante malita ) sacó amarillas a los guerreros en cualquier oportunidad, mientras que a los de Aguascalientesn ni la atención les llamaba.
0-1, Necaxa ganaba inmerecidamente, pero ganaba, y se venía la noche para Santos ya que si así era difícil, imagínense con ventaja.
Transcurrirían así los minutos, lentos, tediosos, con un Santos intentando pero no logrando romper la concha en que Necaxa se metía...llegó el tiempo de compensación y en el ultimo minuto...
Se vino una jugada de gente grande, ( y les soy sincero, nunca pensé llegar a contarla ) Baloy se suma al ataque, con fuerza y decisión, pase a Chucho Benítez que se da completamente la vuelta y LE RESPETA el movimiento a Baloy filtra el pase y éste, como si fuera algo natural, cruza su tiro de forma correcta, precisa y preciosa, 1-1 gracias a Felipe Baloy en una jugada que nadie esperaba del moreno.

Así se irian al descanso, con un justo empate y con una jugada muy discutida en donde se le anuló un gol al Necaxa ante los reclamos de ¿los comentaristas? pues sí, ellos eran los que mas reclamaban el accionar del árbitro aunque en honor a la verdad si hay un contacto, el silbante se la pasó marcando faltas por "amontonamientos" durante el partido.
Para la segunda mitad, veríamos en pleno, el juego marrullero del Necaxa, "TODOS ATRAS, chingue a su madre el que pase el medio campo" Santos se volvia loco intentando llegar al área, pero cometía el pecado de NO INTENTAR tiros de media distancia, y de quererse meter hasta la cocina en cada una de las jugadas, mención aparte de los centros ( ¿¿a poco no se daban cuenta que a Quatrocho NO LO IBAN A PASAR??  ASI? ) transcurrían los minutos, Santos se desesperaba, venían los cambios, salen Ludueña, Oribe y Cárdenas que esta totalmente perdido ultimamente, para que entren Pony, Quintero y Arce para intentar revolucionar el partido.
Sin embargo, no se veía como, puesto que por mas que Santos metía gente al frente, Necaxa se amontonaba atrás para no dejar hacer algo a los de casa, y todo por llevarse un méndigo punto que solo a ellos emociona.
Santos apelaba a sus individualidades, y Necaxa apelaba a meter a todos atras, pero que creen...de tanto apelar, SE LA PELARON!, Jugada enorme de Chucho Benítez que se quita a 3 rivales y tira ante la salida de el Conejo y hacer explotar por fin al Corona y festejar un triunfo muy sufrido, buscado y MERECIDO.

Con furia gritó Benítez el ansiado y sufrido gol.

Terminaba el partido, Santos consigue otra victoria de local, y deja al equipo del Ruso con su primera derrota con él al mando, Los guerreros enseguida viajaron a Estados Unidos con plantel completo para jugar ante el Columbus Crew este martes y enseguida irse a la Cd. de México para enfrentar a las Aguilas de Lapuente que si bien no juegan como el Inter y el Barcelona no son una perita en dulce, ya que es de sobra conocido el sistema lapuentista de querer desesperar al rival, un duelo que se antoja difícil, pero ¿cuál a estas alturas no lo es?

Three new clubs entered the Wearside League this season, two of which met on the opening day of the season at the Eastbourne Sports Complex.
This is the fifth season of the current Darlington Cleveland Bridge, having played two years in local leagues followed by two seasons in the Teesside League.
The original club formed in 1903 as a works team for employees only. They began playing at a higher level in 1981 when joining the Northern Alliance, which they won in 1982-83. The following season they stepped up to the Northern League, playing in the Second Division and changing their name to Darlington Cleveland Social in 1993-94. The club folded early in the 1996-97 season after losing all eight matches. The factory closed and their Neasham Road ground where they had played since their formation was sold off for housing.

The Eastbourne Sports Complex is found on the edge of Darlington town centre just off Yarm Road. The players use the changing rooms in the complex building, which means a long walk through the car park to the pitch. The ground has full athletics provisions surrounded by a running track. There’s a storage block which has refreshment facilities and a slight overhanging roof which acts as the only spectator shelter.
At each side of the pitch there is raised grass banks, with the far side giving the best view being closer to the pitch. Cleveland Bridge entertained Prudhoe Town, who have returned to competitive action after a year out after resigning from the Northern League at the end of the 2008-09 season.
The home side only took 8 minutes to score their very first goal in the Wearside League, Ripley pounced with a close range volley after a mix up in the Prudhoe defence.
Further first half strikes from Richardson who finished well after beating the offside trap and a shot from the edge of the box from substitute Wilson but the hosts in a commanding position at the break.
During the first half I noticed a spectator sporting a Plymouth Argyle shirt, I surmised that this could only be one person, as there can’t be that many Pilgrims fans in County Durham. My inkling was correct when I was approached at half time by 100FgC squad#138 Lee Stewart who introduced himself and together we watched the second half.
When Ripley added his second goal of the afternoon it was a case of just how many more Cleveland were going to add to the four goal bagged in the opening 48 minutes.
Prudhoe improved as the game progressed and Best reduced the deficit on 65 minutes, which looked no more than a consolation, but with five minutes remaining he added his second with a close range header after the initial shot came back off the crossbar.
In the last five minutes Town missed numerous chances, creating more in the dying embers of the game then they had in the opening 85 minutes. If the game had gone on for a further ten minutes you would have fancied Prudda to grab a point. Overall the game was quite entertaining and Cleveland Bridge can be pleased with their encouraging start.

Wearside League

The other new Wearside League club this season are Stockton Town, this being only their second season in senior football after playing in the Teesside League last season.
The club originally formed in 1979 as Hartburn Juniors, fielding their first side in the Teesside Junior Football Alliance at Under-12 level. In 2003 they became Stockton Town having obtained the FA Charter Standard for Clubs the previous year.
The club now runs seventeen sides from boys under-7’s to under-18’s, along with the senior side, Reserves and three girls teams.

The Bishopton Road West ground is found about a mile from Stockton town centre in between Stockton Sixth Form College and Our Lady & St Bedes School.
The entrance is shared with the college, at the far side of the car park is the clubhouse which has a fully licensed bar which has live big screen football (On them dodgy channels…Eddy) and also houses the changing room facilities.
The pitch is at the side of the clubhouse and behind the neighbouring school, which is quite a walk away over two other football pitches at the far end of the field. The pitch is fully fenced off, surrounded by hard standing with a pair of Perspex dugouts.

My second game in the Wearside League this season saw the same score line as my previous encounter, with the home side again coming out on top.
Stockton took an early lead with a header from Scott Hine from eight yards out which went in via both the goalkeeper and crossbar, as they comfortably held on to their one goal advantage until half time.
Boldon started the second half well and early pressure was rewarded with a penalty on the hour from Meak, who was brought down by ‘keeper Swann in a one-on-one situation, although the referee’s decision was very harsh indeed.
The goal was a wake up call for Stockton, within eight minutes they lead 3-1 with striker Hines completing his hat-trick. His second goal was a cool finish, going round the ‘keeper before slotting the ball home and his third was from the penalty spot, the referee levelled things up making it once each in bogus penalty decisions.
The visitors reduced the arrears in the last minute with a fine finish by Hudson, but never threatened in time added on, instead it was the hosts who clinched it with substitute Ballantyne capitalising on a defensive error, allowing him an easy finish to wrap up the three points. During the interval myself and my son James wandered into the clubhouse and after a spot of channel hopping the barman found the Everton v Newcastle game, which I was delighted to viddy during the half time break. The match finished at 4.15pm which gave us a good 35 minutes left of the match at Goodison to watch, so after racing back to the clubhouse imagine our disappointment when we found a blank screen on the wall, accompanied with the words ‘No signal’ (Dodgy channels indeed…Eddy) so we had no choice but to head back home, having to settling on listening in on tin-pot local radio.

¡A aprovechar la experiencia Adrián!

El primer fruto de la alianza entre Santos Laguna y el Celtic de Glasgow se acaba de dar, ya que el club lagunero cedió a préstamo al Gustavo Adrián Ruelas, quién comenzará una nueva aventura en el futbol europeo.

El delantero santista, integrante del equipo Sub-20, nació un 18 de marzo de 1991 en Fontana, California. Tiene 19 años de edad, mide 1.86 metros y pesa 78 kilograms.Llegó a Santos Laguna en febrero del 2006 luego de una visoría realizada en Los Angeles. Previamente había tenido participación con Chivas USA durante un año.Ruelas cuenta con la nacionalidad estadounidense además de la mexicana, y actualmente forma parte de la Selección Sub- 20 de los Estados Unidos, a la que representó en la Milk Cup.

Su participación en este certamen le valió para ser designado uno de los jugadores más valiosos de dicha copa.

Felicidades al joven, sin duda alguna no siempre se tiene la posibilidad de entrenar bajo el sistema europeo, esperemos que este sea el primero de muchos intercambios entre ambos equipos, creo que es sin duda alguna un muy buen paso a seguir creciendo como Institución.
Así mismo, debemos considerar y felicitar el papel que Alejandro Irarragorri viene haciendo por el equipo, si bien ha tenido sus desvaríos y no está exento a la crítica, hasta la fecha su esfuerzo a redituado en que el equipo camine de forma mas contínua y todo para hacerlo todo un complejo de primer nivel.
Ahora solo falta que este intercambio rinda los frutos y veamos pronto a este joven debutando con el primer equipo de forma gloriosa y mostrando todo lo que pueda aprender del otro lado.
¡Nuevamente, Felicidades!

EN OTROS ASUNTOS menos agradables...

Santos pierde ( porque de plano, así se sintió aunque en el papel, empataron ) dos puntos al dejarse empatar por un humilde pero luchon equipo guatemalteco el cual,--para variar-- jugó con 10 hombres los ultimos 20 min, e hizo ver nuevamente de trapo y papel, a una defensa que poco a poco muestra su verdadera cara, aunque debo señalar, que los guatemaltecos nunca bajaron los brazos en pos de alcanzar al soberbio contrario.

Nuevamente, vemos el concierto de pifias, errores y HORRORES de Lacerda que está convertido en todo un chanfle ( puesto que hasta risa te da ya la forma en que entra al balón y eso, QUE NO LE MARCARON UN PENAL, así que nos la dejaron barata. ).
Cuando todo parecía indicar que Santos se traería 3 puntos debido a los goles de Pony Ruiz por penal y Oribe Peralta ( aunque éste ultimo se dio vuelo fallando otros dos mas como mínimo que al final, pesaron enormemente en el partido ), pero entonces comenzaron las constantes llegadas, la defensa, OOOOTRA VEZ deja solo al delantero en turno ( y en medio del area ) remata de forma solitaria, para el 1-2 que les dió animos y fuerzas pero sobre todo motivos para ver que los de enfrente se estaban confiando.

Hasta aquí, todo marchaba a la perfección.

Todo el segundo tiempo fue de ellos, los cambios de poco o nada sirvieron, luego en una jugada fortuita, Guti lesiona a un jugador guatemalteco trabandole la pierna al ir a disputar un balón de forma leal, teniendo que abandonar la cancha el local, y aún así, el equipo superó la adversidad, y empezo a apedrearle el rancho a Becerra  ( que ahora si salió mas sobrio en su uniforme y se evitó las burlas de la raza ) pero se veía venir la noche y así fue, en una descolgada, se quitan a cuanta defensa santista como si fueran monitos clavados y al entrar al area, Olvera empuja al adversario y le marcan un penal que se veía  venir desde lo mas alto del estadio que se marcaría puesto que el arbitro sentía la presión y tenía que redimirse.
Lo obvio llegó, un empate que les sabe a gloria a los Guatemaltecos, mientras que a los laguneros es motivo de preocupación y desanimo por la forma en que se dió.
Santos ahora, enfoca su mira ( algo maltrecha ultimamente ) hacia los Hidrorayos, que vienen el sabado bajo el mando del Ruso en un juego que no será, para nada fácil.
De Lacerda, ya ni hablamos, no tiene caso.
Pero URGE que regrese Baloy.

Los humildes Gallos del Querétaro le dieron una lección al orgulloso y "poderoso" Santos Laguna que se atrevió a descansar ( aparte de las bajas de Darwin y Baloy ) a Ludueña y Oribe Peralta minimizando aún más al que para ellos parecía un "pequeño" rival y en el pecado llevaron la penitencia al bailar al son de 5 huevazos a 2, en el Estadio de la Corregidora.
Después de habernos chutado ( que verbo tan futbolero ) una semana sin futbol de liga pero que se nos hizo ETEEEEERNA luego de haber visto a unos ratones verdes intentando jugar al "futbol", llegábamos al sabadito rico con ansias para volver a ver a nuestros guerreros en la cancha, sin embargo nunca nos esperábamos (volver a) presenciar un espectáculo como el que se dió en Nuevo León ante los "ti-gue-res".
Santos Laguna saltaba a la cancha con un cuadro alternativo, metiendo al frente al "Ferrari" González, un chavo con deseos de jugar, pero que desgraciadamente no tuvo la tranquilidad suficiente cuando se le presento la oportunidad de matar al gallos.


MAS INFORMACIÓN AQUÍ

Apenas estabamos abriendo las Victorias y Coronas, poniéndole salsa a la botanita y Santos se iba al frente gracias a un error del chiquito ( medallas xD ) Bosio, que soltó un balón al chocar con su defensa, dejándolo muerto y a merced del Chucho que agradeció el regalo para anotar su gol 8 en lo que va del torneo local.
Todo parecía indicar que se vendría un juego tranquilo, con juego controlado y listo para el contraataque letal en los pies de Benítez.
Y se pudo haber dado, Santos tuvo todo para el 2-0 en una jugada hecha por Benítez que de forma tranquila esperó el momento correcto para ceder el balón al "Ferrari" González que mostró lo novato y que el apodo le queda muy grande ( si acaso a "Vocho" llegó con esa pifia ) con un tiro al mono, cuando debía haber liquidado a los queretanos fallando y desperdiciando una oportunidad que todo novato desea tener, el debutar con gol.
Lastimosamente, cuando mejor jugaba Santos, vino el gol del gallos al 27, en un tiro de esquina, Altamirano centra pegado al primer poste, obligando a Oswaldo a escupir el balón que desgraciadamente llega al bastón del anciano Joaquín Beltrán y hace el que será su unico pinche gol del torneo ( de mi se acuerdan ), para el 1-1 que motivó aún más a los Gallos.

Todo parecía que terminarían el primer tiempo empatados, sin embargo, no contábamos con que empezaría el concierto de errores de Lacerda.
Pase al fondo, elevado, largo...CON VENTAJA PARA EL DEFENSOR, ¿que hace Lacerda? nada, así de simple ¡¡NADA!!, deja botar valiéndole madre la primer regla del defensor ( que sabe), el sr. ( que no brinca ni un méndigo kilo de tortillas desaprovechando su estatura, ) deja botar, y luego se hace bolas junto con Uriel que sólo fue a estorbar dejando la marca libre del Chapita que cruza su disparo para vencer a un Becerra que entró luego de que Oswaldo Sanchez saliera lesionado debido a un encontronazo con Alvarez, y marca el 2-1 ante la algarabía del gallinero que celebraba haberle dado la vuelta al hasta ese momento, superlíder del torneo.

Chema no podía creer lo que sucedia con la defensa

El error de Lacerda, me hace preguntarme, ¿dónde esta Rafael Figueroa? y es que verdaderamente fue patética la forma en que cayó ese segundo gol, vamos ¡¡EXTRAÑE AL KANU SANTIAGO!! yo creo que eso ya te dice todo del coraje que traíamos al ver caer goles de esa forma.
Para la segunda mitad, Romano mueve sus piezas ( mas de lo que las había movido ) entra Ludueña y Peralta, salen Arce y el "Vocho" González.
Al 69, en saque de banda, Morales y Mona Olvera quedan superados de forma fácil por el Queretano, viene un Lacerda sin decisión, buscando mas al mono que al balón y le dicen POOOOONTE SOTAAAAANA de forma vergonzosa, el gallo se engrandece, se acomoda y dispara, Becerra escupe el balón que cae muerto a los pies del Chapito que SOLO empuja para el 3-1 una losa pesada y difícil de quitar.
Pero con la entrada de Ludueña, Santos volvió a tocar, arman jugada, queríendo acortar distancias, y en una serie de buenos toques, apenas al minuto de haberles caído el tercero, Santos encontraba el 3-2  al 71 en un autogol que bien pudo haber sido marcado fuera de lugar, pero que el arbitro tontamente cruzó al abanderado que oportunamente se lo había marcado. Error ( inmerecido) a favor de Santos que lo acercaba en los cartones, sin embargo hasta ahí llegarían los guerreros.

Santos se iría al frente con mas ganas que orden, buscando el empate, desgraciadamente para la causa verde, los espacios atrás se abrirían como Boulevares; al 87", los Guerreros en un avance, tocaban bonito, pero los Gallos le roban el balón a Peralta, tocan en corto, mandan a la banda para Altamirano que se enfrenta al complaciente Lacerda que lo marcaba a 6 metros y en un área que ni siquiera le correspondía ( ¿dónde estaba la Mona y/o Morales? pues se quedó arriba, trotando ) Pity levanta la mirada, ver que nadie lo marca, observa la llegada y manda un balonazo al centro del área CHICA ( territorio de Becerra) pero éste se queda bajo los 3 postes y le deja libre la llegada para que nuevamente entre el Chapita SOLO Y SIN LA MARCA DEL GUTI ( a quien aquí alabamos pero también debemos señalar que el Chapita SIEMPRE ENTRÓ POR SU SECTOR y toda la noche lo dejó atrás, por subir desbocado al frente y descuidar lo que mejor sabe hacer, DEFENDER ) clavara el tercero de la noche y el 4to en la frente de unos soberbios Guerreros que dieron una cátedra  DE COMO NO SE DEBE MARCAR defensivamente....

Pero faltaba la puntilla, y quien mejor que el exsantista, Héctor "El Pity" Altamirano quién les demostró a los Morales, Arce, Ludueña, Cárdenas y Rodríguez cómo se le debe de meter el empeine al balón en algo que se llama TIROS DE MEDIA DISTANCIA, algo que Santos desde hace rato dejó de intentar.

Ya con el 4-2 y un Santos entregado Gallos cobra un tiro de castigo, la defensa cabecea el balón que cae en lo botines de Altamirano que ni tardo ni perezoso saca un soberbio tiro al angulo para clavar el 5to al 90" y de paso demostrar que "Un guerrero si puede morir" gracias al concierto de errores que dieron en Querétaro.

Así Santos se trae su segunda derrota del torneo que le cuesta dejar la cima del torneo y para variar, ser alcanzado por los Piporro´s boys que ganaron el clasico del codo alla en la Sultana del "norti"
Una derrota dolorosa por como se dió, y es que nuestra defensa dió verdadera lástima, y nos demostró que Lacerda como líder de defensa, no es ni siquiera una opción confiable, que Alvarez aún esta demasiado verde y su permanencia en el cuadro, es por la cuestión de la regla de menores, que si no, estaría en la banca y que se requiere que Baloy, esté listo para el próximo encuentro ( nunca pensé decir eso ) o bien que echen mano de Rafa Figueroa o Kanú Santiago, no hay mas.
Para variar, se viene un doble juego, el martes, el equipo se parte para ir a jugar a Guatemala en el torneo Concachampions para luego el sabado recibir la visita de los Hidrorayos del Necaxa, que vienen con técnico nuevo y un sistema ultradefensivo que sabemos cómo se le indigesta al Santos.
Es tiempo de hacer una autocrítica en el interior del equipo, PLANEAR MEJOR la estrategia para la regla de menores, probablemente hubiera sido mejor meter a Toledo arropado por Ludueña, Arce y Rodríguez, sacrificando a Cárdenas pero el hubiera no existe y ese jale es del tecnico y el cobra mucho y muy bien.
Esperemos que Necaxa pague los platos rotos, realmente lo deseo, pero los Rayos siempre han sido un hueso muy duro de roer.
Ni modo señores, a trabajar duro en la semana, que esta derrota, deja MUY MAL SABOR DE BOCA.

Ardrossan Winton Rovers (Scotland)

The Winton, as they're known locally, come from the Ayrshire harbour town of Ardrossan. They were formed in 1902, and moved to their spiritual home, the 3000 capacity Winton Park, in 1923, after they bought the land from Lord Eglinton for £160. The ground's main stand was built in 1923, although is currently not in use as despite looking glorious, it's currently deemed unsafe to house paying customers.

Indeed, over the years much of the ground had fallen into disrepair, until a new supporter- led committee was formed in 2001 with the express intention of improving the facilities, after the previous owners decided that they were no longer able to continue running the club. They finally managed to raise the funds to buy out the deeds to the ground in 2005.

They play in the Scottish Junior League Western Region, the fifth tier of Scottish football, and have not been without some success. Perhaps their most notable achievement is having reached the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup on three occasions. And they weren't all in their early days, as they've spread these successes between 1912, 1934 and 1970. In total they've won over local titles and cup competitions, making them one of the most successful Junior teams in Scotland. Their most recent successes came in the last few years when they won the Airshire Cup three years in a row in 2007-2008.

Stripe spotters be warned though, because although they have played the bulk of their history in black and white stripes, they very occasionally turn those lines horizontal and change them to hoops. But we can forgive a club with such a long and proud history the odd eccentricity now and again.
