Club Atlético Chaco For Ever (Argentina)

I've come across some cracking team names in my journey around the teams of the world who play in black and white, but this one has to be one of the best. Chaco For Ever come from the city of Resistencia in the far north east of Argentina. The city was named after the aboriginal Toba tribe who lived on the banks of the Rio Negra who put up so much resistence to European settlers that it was only finally colonised in 1865.

It is thought CFE got their name as it was trendy to have English words in football club names when they were founded back in 1913. The name was devised by a mysterious Mr King who was working in the city at the time. He was friends with the club's founders and suggested that such a name would signify a pioneering spirit, and would leave them remembered for a long time - which in one respect is true. They found themselves in the famous black and white after their founders saw a young lad kicking about in a park wearing the colours of the Buenos Aires club Estudiantes. They immediately thought it would be ideal for their club, as it would represent the richness of Chaco province, demonstrating the white of cotton and the black of coal.

They play at the chunking 30,500 capacity Juan Alberto García stadium, although the currently languish at the regionalised fourth level of the Argentinian league system. The biggest team from Chaco province, they have had a short spell in the lofty heights of the Primera División in 1989/90 and 1990/91. The first of those was the most successful in their history when they finished 17th and won the relegation play off to spend another, slightly less successful season at the top table. they've played another seven seasons in the second division, but have seen the bulk of their career in the more junior leagues.
